easiest way to make aluminium please
To get higher up in the tiers i need to make some aluminium ingots but their seems to be all sorts of assembly lines for bits and pieces before you make them , whats the easiest way to make them .

Can all that equipment be powered by coal or do i need to go for a different type of power

Thanks in advance

I'd say the "easiest" BUT ABSOLUTELY NOT OPTIMIZED would be
Bauxite + Water => Alumina ( + silica you can Sink )
----
REFINERY : Oil => plastic + Residue
REFINERY : Residue => petro coke
CONSTRUCT : Plastic => bottles
----
REFINERY Alumina + petro coke => alumina scrap + water.
PACKAGER : Bottle the water with the bottles, sink them
----
SMELTER : Alumina scrap => Aluminum ingots

The only requirement for power generation is that you generate more than you consume. How you produce your power is irrelevant for the machines using it.
The Big Brzezinski 10. feb. 2022 kl. 10:57
It'll help to wire up all your facilities to the same power grid. Then it won't matter where the power comes from.

A basic setup for ingots would be 6 constructors making silica underclocked at 88.8889%, 2 refineries making alumina solution at 100%, 1 refinery making aluminum scrap at 100%, and 4 foundries making aluminum ingots at 100%. You'll need to bring in 240 bauxite, 240 water, 120 coal, and 120 raw quartz a minute. You'll get 240 aluminum ingots for your trouble. Makes sure you pipe the water from the aluminum scrap refinery back into the alumina solution refineries, and send their silica in turn to the ingot foundries.

Take 3 sloppy alumina solution refineries (alternate recipe), clock 2 of them at 90%, one at 120%. Then 3 scrap refineries. Feed the 120% refinery water from extractors, Return the water by-product from the scrap refineries to the 90% ones. Takes 600/min bauxite. Makes 1080/min scrap. Whatever scrap or aluminum you don't use should be sent to sink to keep refineries from backing up and slowing down.

6 refineries-Sloppy Alumina(alternate) --> 6 refineries-Aluminum Scrap
Inputs - 600 Bauxite x 2, 600 Coal, 600 water
Outputs - 600 water --> fed back into water inputs
- 360 scrap per refinery --> 6 smelters-Pure Aluminum Ingot(alternate) > 180 Alum. Ingots

360 Alum. Ingots (12 smelters) --> 4 constructors-Aluminum Casing
Total refineries - 12, smelters - 36, constructors - 12, Aluminum Casing > 720

For Alclad Alum. Sheets use 36 assemblers instead of constructors and 360 copper ingots.
Makes 1080 sheets.

For me, this setup is easiest because it bypasses the need for crystal or silicon, and has no waste products to dispose of.
Uses 2 alternate recipes, all material numbers are per/minute.

These methods work, but you have to hunt down hard drives and get lucky at decoding them. You'll have to decide for yourself whether it's less work to get these recipes or connect all the machines up properly.

I'll chime in on this one because aluminum is another jump is difficulty despite my previous tiff. This details how I start aluminum just to get it going and is a representation of what The Big Brzezinski posted in addition to me making items out if the ingots as well. Of course if you just want the ingots, don't bother with the copper, assemblers, and constructor. It's all base recipes: https://www.reddit.com/r/SatisfactoryGame/comments/prsvy0/i_spent_4_hours_building_a_factory_for_it_to_go/hdl5u9s/

Here is a video (not mine) where the first few minutes can help explain how to prioritize pipe flow so it doesn't back up and always takes flow from the scrap refinery first, though they are a little different from what I did: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTzUVk9sUns

If you don't want to deal with recycling the water, you need to do something else with the water. Making and sinking wet concrete (alternate recipe) is popular. Though I would figure out how to deal with recycling because you'll have to do the same thing with sulfuric acid if you go to nuclear power. Of course you can always package and sink it, but in my opinion why do the work when you don't have to.

The simplest path I would say is sloppy alumina (alt, no silica produced), base scrap recipe because it uses coal not coke which would need oil, and pure ingots (alt, scrap -> ingots in smelter). This removes quartz and silica but lowers the return on ingots per bauxite. You still have to deal with water from the scrap refinery regardless of which scrap recipe is used.

Nice to nice that I was not the only one to do it this way

My inputs:
- Coal 240/min
- Bauxite 480/min
- Water 480/min (do not overproduce on pipeline)
- Raw Quartz 240/min

Make 10.66 constructors (10 full and one underclocked 66%) making Silica from Raw Quartz.
Make 4 refineries taking all that Bauxite and Water (only use 4 water pumps), it produces Silica and Alumina Solution.
Make 2 refineries taking that Alumina Solution and Coal, that makes you Aluminium Scrap and Water.
Take the water back to the initial water line to the 4 refineries, it should add up to 600/min (suggest connecting the reflux water to the other end of refinery splitter pipeline as the actual limit of pipeline mk2 is something like 580/min, so the flow does not exceed that value at any point of the pipeline)
Create 8 foundries making Aluminium Ingots from the Aluminium Scrap and both Silica lines (refineries and constructors)

You should get 480/min of Aluminium Ingots.
