Compacted Coal Question
I realize that it makes sense to convert coal plants to Compacted Coal to free up coal for Steel and create additional Compacted Coal for future uses in other things. I have 10 coal plants operating currently . Each is overclocked and putting out a smooth 1500MW. I took 2 of the plants offline and ran Compacted Coal in the place of Coal and they are operating efficiently with only one small issue.

My two initial assemblers for the switch are each turning out 25 CC without overclocking, and the regular coal gennies are using 30 coal/m. I underclocked the CC assemblers to 15 coal/m each and ran it into the generators and it runs well/ My issue is that I am inputting 15 CC/m and they are accepting 14.29/m each and I have no idea why that is.

The burn rate of CC in a coal gen is 7.142857 per minute at 100% so a 200% one would be 14.285 ish a minute… it’s correct.
Thanks. Now I need to adjust my assemblers or I could set each under-clocked assembler to 21.429 and split each 3 ways and merge the lines back by twos and each assembler should be able to meet the demand of 1.5 generators each?

Or, I guess it would be better to keep each assembler at full 25 output and do the same thing while feeding each Generator 16.667/m and exceed the 14.29/m demand.

The burn rate is 7 1/7 for the fraction.

So how you want to feed them depends on you. I like to use it all.

One assembler can feed 3.5 coal plants, so 2 can feed 7.

If you want to keep some of them overclocked, run 3 at 200% and 1 at 100%. That would use all the coal.

If you're concerned about splitting it, you can always use a manifold and pre-load the generators, or if you're up for a small challenge, combine the 2 assembler outputs, and look up a 1:7 splitter. 6 of the output belts get paired and there's your split that will get things running right away.

EDIT: Or, let's see, you can build a modified 1:7 splitter off 1 assembler combining 2 output belts, so you wouldnt need to build the whole thing. That would go to the gen at 100%. The remainder would get merged with the other assembler then split into 3 for the overclocked gens.

There are multiple ways to approach this. Overengineering works too :)

The latter is what I would do, FWIW

1 compacted coal = 10,5 MW
270 compacted coal = 2835 MW
2835/75 = 37,8 generators
= 15 fully overclocked generators and one underclocked at 30%
or all 16 gens at 236,25%
if you really want to get most out of the same bunch of nodes you might make some steel with the compacted coal.

I hate fluctuation in my power supply. Not nearly as much in my production. Right now, using coal alone, I can get a clean 150 from each Generator at 200% over clock. This is by tying 1 water extractor to 2 coal gennies and running them all at 200%. Switching to Compacted coal everything stays the same as long as I deliver the 14.29 Compacted to each gen.

My sulfur node is delivering 270 and each coal node is delivering 510 (3 @ 270).

I am flush with shards since I don't usually over clock anything but water, generators and nodes.

I find that if you max the water extractor with shards (250%), that gives you 300, the max of the MK1 pipe. So along with CC gens, I have minimum water generators along with just a handful of coal gens to give a handsome power output.

It will be better in 1.0 as they look to be increasing sulfur in a few locations near coal.

I tried that but had a hard time making the 3/8 formula work without hiccups. 1/2 with all at 200% OC has been smooth as glass. I have 10 power plants and 5 extractors all operating smoothly with 1500 MW power and the benefit of being able to take each single group of three offline together if necessary to restructure other stuff.
