I don't like playing with female characters. It's that simple.

Yes - as a male it is very immersion breaking to have to play as a female (and vice-versa I'm sure) - I've spent most of my time with this game playing with low shadow detail just so I don't get distracted seeing the shadow of my characters fat hips.

My biggest fear for this game is that with 1.0 the character will get a voice. Imagine if when you get hurt there was a clearly female scream instead of that beeping sound ? I would have to mod the sound files before I could enjoy the game again.

So please add a male avatar - and also please don't force us into 3rd person when using vehicles or hyper-tubes. It completely destroys immersion.

Not for everybody, no. I'm a straight male, pretty secure with my masculinity and I have zero problems playing female characters, never had. Also, there have been many very popular games where you have no choice and have to play as a female character: the entire Tomb Rider series, No one Lives Forever series, Bayonetta, Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, Control, Hellblade, etc.

So, you just need to pick games with a customizable character. But stop pretending that this is something gamers have universally problems with. There will always be games where you have to play as a woman and that'd be it.

That's an awful limitation.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that all gamers had this problem. I am well aware that immersion in games is far more important to some people than others, but it is very important to me. For example - Helldivers 2 would surely be one of my favorite games in recent years if you could play it in first person, but as it stands I have ZERO interest in that game.

I have also enjoyed quite a few games where you play as a female character - but none of those games were immersive - they were cinematic.

Satisfactory though is very immersive - but that immersion is spoilt every time I use a vehicle / hypertube or any time I am reminded that the character is not me.

I agree about the first person versus third person, first is def more immersive. I also prefer first person. Though it also depends on how 3rd person is handled and I skipped couple of games because of this. But yeah, the male vs female thing does not bother me at all :) I mean, there were/are male theater and film actors that played female characters. It's just a state of mind.

Anyways, the devs said a number of times that there were no plans to add any character customization to this game. Perhaps 1.0 will add some lore that will explain why you're a girl with a chainsaw :) Maybe all men are in the Space Force fighting a galactic war so the women do the work like during WWII? :)

I think they said they were going maybe have different color uniforms in Multiplayer just so you can look at someone and tell who they are by color

Many games tell a story which requires the character to be one or the other. I can tell you only read books where the main character is male. So so limiting. Especially considering such series as Honor Harrington.

I think the thing is that some people play games as "themselves". I don't play games as "me" I assume the identity of the protagonist, I'm "them", "him", "her" or "it". I don't need or even want to see myself in the game. I can totally be in the shoes and the body of whoever it is I'm playing. Even if I'm playing a male character, like V in Cyberpunk or Soldier in Borderlands I don't pretend that's "me".

I spent most of my time in NMS as an Autophage (a construct, a robot). There were no humans in NMS and sometimes people commented that they didn't enjoy the game because they can't play a game as an alien or a robot, they need a "human avatar".

Exactly. In that respect, I think it's very much like watching a movie, reading a book, or studying history. I don't need to identify with any of the characters to appreciate and enjoy the story.

I do still sometimes imagine myself as those characters, but I'm also able to imagine myself in someone else's shoes or as someone else entirely.

This has been an... interesting thread here, but I think I've formulated a solution.

There's nothing wrong with a game having a female main character / player character. That can be very important for storytelling in single-player games.

However, because Satisfactory is not a very story-driven game, and it's multiplayer, the lack of variety in player customization in general is disappointing.
Currently, all players look the same, but the character(s) don't have any personality. There are no player voice clips, no journal entries, no story arc (yet). The character is very generic, almost robotic, but the character model doesn't match that. It's that discrepancy that I think lies at the core of this discontent.
There are three ways to alleviate this:
A) Make the player model more generic, either through making the model less stylized in any one direction or by replacing the model with an automaton (robot).
B) Add more character models / customization options. Either through the form of an additional 3 or 4 player models to choose from, or a character editor, possibly with unlockables throughout the world.
C) Make the player have more character. (This would work best for solo games, as otherwise all players will have the same exact character). This could be done with voice lines, perhaps a logbook with entries unlocked as we go along, maybe a dialoge with ADA, something to make the character feel alive and more human(?). This would create issues with multiplayer, but maybe by combining options B and C this could be fixed. Either way, this is just my two cents.

TLDR:

Basically: Playermodel has personality, but character doesn't.
This can be fixed by either making the model generic,
adding more character models,
or making the character itself have personality to match the model.

Gender is psychological. Sex is biological. What you are seeing is the latter.

Hi I'm a trans woman and I want you to shut the duck up. Sex is the gendering of the body. There's a reason I'm doing injections every two weeks, and it's not because of my needle kink.

You're looking for CharacterReplacer[ficsit.app] - a very fresh thing - and then figure out models. I'm not aware of any right now, but seeing the core mod is a thing now, I'd hope something to pop up soon.

I don't understand what you're saying. Except with mis-gendering, I've never seen gender used as a verb. Grammatically, that sentence also makes sex a verb, which is equally perplexing given the context.

Can you reiterate or expound on your statement?
