Arachnophobia
Soooooo. I was on the bandwagon to get this game. Looks/sounds great. Awsome even. Until...................The Deal breaker. I've such HORRID Arachnophobia that EVERY game I preview is scouted for these 8 legged Destroyers of my life.
Now I heard that there is an Arachnophobia mode. My question is, if its so reliable then why is there a Mod to remove them as well. I Want not a Damn thing to do with These things and if they are as huge as I have heard I'd probably croak on sight. These are horrible revelations for such a cool looking game. What gives? Thanks.

There's an arachnophobia mode you can turn on that changes the spider-like enemies into meowing cat JPEGs.

Why is there a mod to remove the spiders entirely? I dunno. Maybe people are scared of cat JPEGs.

Arachnophobia mode has always changed the spiders into big pics of cats that look very out of place (intentionally). The mod just removes that creature from the game completely instead of reskinning it, I believe. I think I remember that arachnophobia mode either has been or will be updated to remove them completely rather than transforming them into cats.

In either case, the game's arachnophobia mode will completely remove the spider's appearance, so no worries about accidentally seeing one.

good thing that the op has no Ailurophobia XD
as the the others mentioned - you can turn the spiders into JPEG cats via options

With AGS turned on, you can remove spiders completely…. I really hope the move that out of AGS and put it in the base options, just replace them with plasma spitters
The mod exists because some people REALLY don't like spiders, and are only satisfied with their complete annihilation from existence.

I recall a mod for System Shock 2 for people with extreme arachnophobia. Since they apparently couldn't simply delete the spiders the mod made them silent, invisible, immobile, disabled their AI, reduced them to one hit point, and die the instant they loaded in. Overkill? Maybe. But effective.

Thanks folks!

And honestly to me they dont look so much like spiders as large ants.

They're creepy though. I don't have crippling arachnophobia like the OP seems to have, but they disgust me and so I turned on the true arachnophobia mode in Advanced Game Settings. Though this setting should be in the normal game settings, the cats are just as creepy.

My words exactly. I still don't see the reason for that decision. Especially when considering that peaceful mode (which removes all hostility) is not part of AGS.

Exactly. This is a very strange decision. I hope the devs would reconsider adding true arachnophobia toggle next to the aggressive animals setting in the main game settings :) If they don't want to remove the crawlies entirely they could replace them with cave trolls or something. The cats feel like a joke :/

PS. I also recall playing the great SKYRIM for a total of about 5 WHOLE MINUTES, only to be SCREWED from ever playing the game again. We all know why. And I also know there is a mod. Phobias are a SOB.

Oh yes, I forgot, those spiders in Skyrim were nasty indeed. So, did you ever find a mod for that or you just never played Skyrim? That sucks :(

You'd think there would be more phobia and sickness awareness among the game developers :(

Yes, indeed there is a mod. However, sadly I was so traumatized, that applying the mod and seeing if it actually worked was a no go. So 5 minutes was all I ever got to play.

Phobias are REAL and debilitating and life altering. Irrational Fears that makes ZERO sense. A centipede. A Millipede. A Scorpion. I can handle. A spider. I CANNOT.
