Buying on Steam vs. Epic
I bought this excellent game a little over four years ago on Epic, and had a great time with it. Now that 1.0 is coming up, is there any reason for me to purchase the game on Steam (other than to support the devs)? I haven't kept up with social media, forums, or wikis, so I don't know if any Epic/Steam differences will be generated by coming out of early access.

Am I right to think that there's no reason to stop using the version on Epic?

Thanks.

No reason to purchase it a second time. It's the same game on both platforms.

The only you should do is link epic to steam (on epic's website) to get access your steam friend list, if you plan on playing multiplayer that isn't a dedicated server.
or just share the session ID, if you don't want to link the accounts

OK, thanks. I guess I miss out on Steam achievements if they add any, but I was wondering if it was anything beyond that. Thanks again!

May be achievements aren't available on epic? Don't know epic platform

I would recommend buying on Steam if you plan on playing on a Steam Deck or controller using Steam Input.

steam > epic.. in all ways..
like Gabe the Holy once said, [..anyone(other platforms) else has a service problem..]
steam will always be number one for gamer
only GoG has risen beside steam because of the complete DRM free "freedom".

If you do decide to buy though, now it's the time, as the game is on sale and they announced a price increase.

steam: easier to get help and share screens, better mod support for most games.
epic: no help, no screens, no mods

This is why i bought the game on steam sale while a had the game on epic for a long time.

Yes, that's exactly why I'm asking! The clock is ticking :-)

Currently, I have no use for mods for this game, and I can interact with the Steam forums even if I didn't buy it on Steam. That leaves achievements, I guess...

I agree that Steam is the better platform. My first purchase was Painkiller: Gold Edition in December 2007, followed up by Prey (the other Prey) in March 2008.

It's always better to have it on Steam. Right now it's on sales. I'd go for it. And it's much easier to join friends games.

I just realized: Steam has a great interface for feeding you the dev's updates about the game, every time there's a patch. But Epic has... nothing in this department, correct? Like, the game updates for you, but there's no dedicated news feed that lets you know what happened, lets you read player commentary on the update, etc.

Am I right about this?

Yes, EGS is awful.
I like the Unreal Engine and all, but their store is just bad.
Steam and GOG are the ways to go.

GOG comparable with Steam, updating automatically, etc.?

Update: I realized at a point that I bought games I have on Ubisoft on Steam as well, first because I simply forgot I had it there and second I hang out anyway all the times here when I play or look for informations. I never really tried to explore Ubisoft or Epic or Blizzard but I have there no friends anyway. I prefer not to be scattered on too many websites. Also have zero interest in developers Discord and Reddit and Twitter and own websites.

The plus side to GOG is the games are all drm free, that is the real benefit of them.
