First think I want to say...
That kind of sickness is very personal. No question about it ..
I never mind if a game has (like satisfactory) some shaking during introduction as introduction is one time event... And like you say... You can always look elsewhere and just glimpse at screen to have an idea of what's happening.
Also, for me, I don't get sick if movement is very limited in time.... And with occasional events.
About mining, consider that you use manual mining just few times at beginning.... You will always prefer miners that automate everything.
What could help you is to try experimenting with FOV setting if you already hadn't...
This can help a lot usually.
For me, nothing that I never had issues with this game because you have your hand/tools shown on screen. Having something on screen centered and always on prime view is of great help in such cases.
When you say about games pre-2k isn't true.... Try to play Wolfenstein 3d and you'll get sick in no time even if there's no shaking.
My personal suggestion is (if you already hadn't tried)
- play around FOV (usually bigger number than default, try increment of 10 and then adjust)
- monitor size and distance also can have an impact... If you can do some tests...
Don't know if those advices and comments will resolve ..
As said before .. it's very personal and despite we both suffer same sickness, solutions can vary a lot.
Personally I had resolved with FOV and now I've over 800 hours of play
Do you use corrective lens (glasses or contact lens)
Depending on eye and lens correction, it can enhance simulation sickness. Not that you can do much of it's the case. Better see what you have on front of you than seeing vague colours and lights...
Anyway I had asked my optician and she told me that depending on correction type and amount.. the lens can already have distortions that after a few days your brain understand as lines and not curved.
Such straight lines that tend to be curved depend also on location (center of vision or border) and if such line is in proximity or distant.
Fact is that in a simulation you see a screen that is near and represent object that can be far. So the brain is tricked to see something in theory distant but rendered near and seen at half a meter away from you.
Have you ever tried Minecraft?
If not, have ever seen someone playing it?
I ask that because I get sick in less than 2 minutes... Even seeing a video in a small window
Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. I am now 42 years old and i played many games in my life. Also Wolfestein 3D have no problem with it. In my case it´s really the self moving camera like Shakes or "Camera Smoothing" in 2D games wenn you move - stop and the camera moves slightly after stoping to center on the character. So FOV is a good help sometimes and sometimes not.
What settings do you use Jack to play Satisfactory?
Minecraft no problem - i found Settings to play hundred of hours. Rust - no problem, Ark was the most time no problem but with one Update the changed something and i cant play it anymore. I also cant put my finger on it.
Having Indirect lighting helps to prevent my eyes to get tired. Getting new glasses designed specifically for close view and monitors also helps to prevent eyes getting tired.
The only thing that will help is to completely stop the screen shake.
This has been discussed for years, and the Developers continue to ignore the complaint. They Don't care!
So far, got a terrible motion sickness headache and stomach ache after 2 hours of Satisfactory on default settings. Just started looking around for solutions and found some that I hope will help out. I really wish Satisfactory was more like Captain of Industry as far as being able to step back, view, and navigate. But I can understand how it doesn't make sense for them to spend time/money on a feature that won't boost their profit enough to make it worthwhile. Maybe if their sales drop enough so they have to start appealing to the players who get motion sickness in order to boost sales. lol
Anyway, hoping to try the config changes and mod over the next few days. Thanks for the suggestions and mod!
If you load a savegame you have in the bottom right corner the option: "enable advanced game settings".
I realize this is an old thread, but it's not a new problem and some people who are like me get vertigo as they age out. Depending on the type of vertigo, ie BPV, some medication and physiotherapy helps! But it's possible to get "gamer's" vertigo from playing a game that triggers you.
My advice:
Set your screen resolution to something truly wide, so you get that letterboxing effect. Get Lossless Scaling to help do that, if you need it.
As well, if you can set a wide POV, that can help.
Put a dot of masking tape in the middle of your screen.
Keep your room lights bright and sit as far away from your screen as you can.
