Automated Biomass in 1.0?
As title suggests, I have seen a video suggesting this is in play with biomass burner in early game being able to take a belt of pellets to it. Can anyone confirm this is legit?

Yes. It's legit. It was shown at the end of the video where Snutt went over several things that were NOT coming in 1.0 as a little treat of something that IS coming after going over so many things that are not.

Ah yeah, I watched that previously, but stopped before end so missed that little bit. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah but bio material needs to be manually harvested, so unless they are going to automate deforestation it doesn't seem like a huge game changer to me.

It's not supposed to be a huge game changer though? It's just supposed to remove the time spent refilling them.

I can harvest stuff, dump the leaves and wood into two containers and then leave knowing it'll all get converted to fuel and used.

It'll make a modest difference. I recall back in the day, there was an abrupt push to get into coal power generators asap because bio burners were so heavily manual. It isn't the task of farming for the fuel that is a chore, but the requirement to have to physically keep them operational by manually putting it in there. You can farm the fuel pretty quickly, have it automated to create the biomass, then pellets and eventually, fuel automatically too. Will be refreshing and avoid the early need to push for a massive upgrade in power.

A shame, automated harvesters could be cool - not automated regeneration, but like, a tractor being able to thresh trees and grass and pick up the loot from it could be cool

That's because it isn't a huge gamechanger. It doesn't make biomass any more sustainable and you'd want to get to coal as soon as possible still. It's also questionable whether it's worth doing this at all since it requires you to build additional belts and splitters, something that will take just as much time and work as inserting some biofuel manually a few times.

I'd rather build a little and just dump stuff into one container instead of running around stuffing 10+ burners though.
But ofc each to their own and all that, no real wrong way to play.

Yeah, I never make a base big enough that it needs over 10 burners, you can get away with around 5 and still make everything required to get to coal. Like you said, it all depends on how different people play the game. If you make a big base early and spend longer running your base on biomass, then it's definitely worth hooking it all up so all you have to do is deposit leaves and wood into containers.
Considering the variable burn rate of biomass, it'll probably be advantageous to have as large a number of burners as possible working off a single supply. The more you have, the less fuel each one needs.

Ultimately, I don't see how they're going to be much an improvement. The goal is still to get automated power as soon as possible, and be free from biomass entirely.

The purpose is to encourage people to build production lines for wood, leaves, protein etc into biomass, instead of making biomass by hand (which I have ALWAYS done, I only automated solid biomass)
I did that already. It's the gathering that takes actual time, not processing or distribution.
Man's Best Friend May 29, 2024 @ 3:41pm
Being able to automate it still reduces the processing and distribution to a single step process with an appropriately designed system.

Simply dump all the wood, leaves, and optionally alien remains into a single bin then walk away. That's it. Currently you have to come back, retrieve the final product, and then wander around to every biomass burner you have and feed it some more. Does it take all that long? No. But clearly it was arduous enough of a task that people were constantly asking for automated biomass.
A most arduous 45 seconds every now and then, surely.

I could use those 45 to drink coffee. I feel like it's a win.
