I won't give you too much details as you've (almost) never played and it can get confusing, but my pieces of advice are these:
- Don't be shy on taking a lot of space for building. The first time you play, it's hard to realize how much space you need to build bigger and bigger producing lines.
- Try to do the maths early on, taking this habit of having "efficient" factory lines will greatly help you in later game
- The most important to me: take this first playthrough as a learning playthrough. Do not give a care about aesthetics, build spaghetti conveyors at first. If you effed the math, just delete the producing line and redo it, it might seem overwhelming at first but correcting errors actually end up very satisfying.
- Explore the world while your machines are working, it's beautiful. I really got strong vibes the first time I played
- There are no ingame tutorials besides the initial onboarding (building the Hub) and what the AI tells you after you reach new tech. The official wiki[satisfactory.wiki.gg] is very useful if you get confused.
- Its perfectly fine to start new saves. Many players end up redoing saves as they learn more efficient ways to play or want to challenge themselves.
- Contrary to what the game tells you, all the starting zones are new player friendly, they each just offer different challenges. Also grass fields is not as easy as the game says it is. Moderate metagame spoiler: grass fields is notoriously far away from many mid and late game resources and its biggest challenge is therefore transportation logistics, which can get difficult & tedious.
- Try not using the god / cheat mode stuff until you get a handle for the game, but if you're really frustrated why not.
- Don't neglect personal logistics (walkways & paths around factories, stairs between floors, transportation tech between factories & bases).
- Not caring about aesthetics is actually valid because all the cosmetics are unlocked later anyway. However if you care about them, making aesthetic factories takes just as much practice as making regular ones.
- The fastest way to move in the game is slide-jumping. Slide gives a small speed boost from running, jumping preserves your speed on jump. Therefore faster than just running.
- Minor tech spoiler: Fluids sometimes won't work as intended unless ALL the pipes are full in a network. You can think of it being fully pressurized to attain 100% efficiency.
- Minor tech spoiler: Trains & their networks are actually hard to build, you will need a guide to understand how they work, the Wiki is pretty decent. I'm sure there are good youtube videos as well.
- Minor tech spoiler: I don't recommend using vehicles for personal transport or exploration, as they are very clunky and restricted to roads. A lot of the map is covered in obstacles, cliffs, and vegetation. You get wearable tech later that helps you move around the world much better than vehicles can.
In Satisfactory it's very esay to dissipate one's energies because there are so many things to do. It's soon gets overwhelming the sheer number of tasks and things you have to do. So it's kind of important to just do one thing at a time with all the passion and not think about the long list of chores to do (else one can easily get burned out).
Also I would rather build new factories when you get new technogies than dismantling all the old factories. To many times dismantling also kind of burns out.
Last but not least:
In most of my playthroughs I would have wished that I got my bladerunner, parachute, rebar gun and coal generators sooner. But in the end you just do what you feel to do next. It's your first playthrough, be forgiving with yourself - enjoy the great atmosphere and visuals of this planet!
Explore the world and explore your way to build within it...
Don't worry if you mess around..
And find your stile...
And feel.free to ask here when you have specific questions or for suggestions to attain what you want based on your style.
Sure, there is no "right" and no "wrong" in this game, it's just my experience that erasing factories is so FRUSTRATING, that even weeks later I didnt build the new factory.
So I don't touch my factory and just build a second one with better design. This way I have *two*. This is motivating.
I am expecting a overwhelming bombardment of things to do and by the updates I can see there is a lot of content to get the hang on.
I do enjoy that very first experience a video game provides but these days there are so many things we have to do and time gets somewhat short to do everything so my request was indeed to save me from those estra hours of gameplay learning useless things or having to watch 1-2 hours of videos to figure something out when most of the times those videos are Tutorials or Guides but end up being such spoilers so I rather stay away from them.
I wasn´t expecting to get all those positive comments and such enlighting opinions as we know most of the time these discussions end up having trolls trash talking or criticizing others so I really appreciate the fact you took some of your time to reply to my comments. IT means a lot to me and will be helpfull for sure.
Maybe I will start a game session today. I was not expecting another game(DBD) to have boosted progress the next days so I will try to take advantage to progress faster in that game leaving me little to experience Satisfactory for the moment but I am eager to jump into it and with longging comes more enjoyment wich can be a good thing.
I will keep come to check his discussion and re-read when I need to.
For now I drop a big Thank You to everyone.
My biggest problem when I started playing was trying to decide how much of each thing do I need to build. It's easy at the start to get overwhelmed with either building too much of one thing and not enough of another then having to go back and redo things.
Then I saw someone use a build method where you simply build what you need for your player to be able to use to construct things as you play. The important thing about this method is that you build each item as it's own stand alone production line. So you go from ore to smelter to constructor to assembler and so on into storage.
This was a game changer for me, instantly removed the frustration of feeling like I had to tear down and rebuild all the time.
Typically you only really need 1 or 2 machines at the end of the line producing each item into storage for use later. Even when you get to very low volume production items like computers, you only really need 1 manufacturer going into storage for your player to use.
This start to end production line method works really well for the early stages, but of course at some point you will see it makes sense to plan to make certain items together.
So you might (or might not) choose to combine circuit boards, computers, super computers and high speed connectors into one factory.
The single biggest thing that has helped me in this game though is this website:
https://www.satisfactorytools.com/production?share=zGXTAUNOyNxMNCyQ50Zk
I've linked an example build I used for the computer, circuit board, supercomputer and high speed connectors, so you can see how it can be used to plan your builds.
Enjoy!
Jezzz,
This is confusing too me at this stage and damn, just by a quick look at the Recipes there are a lot of items for production.
I´m sure that tool will be usefull when I get the hang of how things work.
Thanks for sharing.
Just built something that I needed.... Eventually later expanded it or build more in another site.....
If for any reason I needed more of something, just arranged a solution that could please myself and work.
If you produce more than needed, no problem... You can pile it in a container or just let machineries to stop.
I almost never made a production line that never got refinement/tuning/changed after first creation... There's always something to do.
If you notice something wrong or that can get improvement.... Just do it....
And anyway first factories won't be efficient anyway. But still .. I won't worry ..
just play... And find what is of enjoying and satisfactory for you.
For example me and some of my friends .. we all played many hundred hours (even thousand). All know inside and out of the game and know how to build complex factories ... But still me and every of my friend play with different (very different) styles ....
Someone prefer and lime to build perfect looking building and blend within world... But don't care much of production....
I prefer production over style, but don't look at perfect rates and efficiency as I prefer a system that adapt to changes of production requests ..
While other prefer one component production with perfect efficiency..
Some prefer to have small productions sparse all over world shile other like idea of a super mega factory....
Just mix and match and have fun
