Hard Drive Scans
Hello people, is it possible to somehow influence the result of a hard drive scan? I would like specific recipes and I just can't get them.

No, they are random. All you can do is ESC out and try again. It gets really frustrating.

No.
But you can start a new save with Advanced Game Settings with all recipes enabled. Not sure if you can do that with an existing save, but you can use an external save editor like SCIM to do the same thing.

The decision on what recipes the hard drive will offer is made when the scan starts, so you can't save just before the 10 mins expire and reload repeatedly to get what you want. You have to save before the scan starts and wait 10 mins, and reload to before the scan started

Yes can do with existing save. I have a few recipes left and decided to use the option. Got tired of not getting what I needed.

The only way you can effect it, is with milestones, and MAM research… those just add to the available possibility recipes.

Thanks for the tip about saving and the option for all recipes, I will use one of the two methods

The best (but boring) way is to save before researching and restoring if you get garbage.

You can also use the interactive map at satisfactory-calculator.com to find the locations of the drives and what they require to open. You can also remove the fog of war to see those in areas you have not yet explored, so that you can plan a route.

Contrary to the above posts, yes, you can influence the results of the alternative recipes you are given at any particular time.

The pool of available alternative recipes is static at any given moment. When a hard drive is scanned, it draws from this pool. You can influence the recipes that are available within this pool.

Researching a hard drive will remove an option from this pool. Completing milestones and MAM research add options to the pool. The key to having the best chances for the alternative recipes you want is to strategically manage the times more recipes are added to the pool. This allows you to keep the chances for a particular recipe the highest.

For more concrete guidance, pay close attention to the 'unlocked by' column in the table on the following page:

https://satisfactory.wiki.gg/wiki/Hard_Drive

So in short, if you need a specific alternate recipe, look to the table to see its prerequisite and unlock it, then once you have, do not unlock any more tech until you get the desired recipe.

There is a mod if you'd prefer to have a research tree over the randomness of the vanilla game.

https://ficsit.app/mod/AltRecipeResearch

It just lets you pick a specific research to go for in the options in the mam there should be Tiers with recipes in there. They still cost a hard drive you can just go for the ones you want. I like to use it.

Same creator has a mod that marks crash sites on the map too with requirements to open.

Pray very hard to the RNG gods. If you are in favor with them they surely grant you the desired recipe.

The best solution is explore and get more. Once you picked the garbage it won't come back.

Long trip? Very.
But your coupons build up in the mean time if you exploit some quartz nodes with silica before you leave and you probally come back with a lot of power shards.

Passive mode is in general settings now so you dont need to activate advanced game settings for that.

I got tired of this and I just enabled all alt recipes with AGS. There are literally like two useful alt recipes, (batteries and circuit boards) and I just can't get them, everything else is just pretty much useless to me.

There should be a different mechanism to research alt recipes that the player has some control over. Looking for the hard drives is just a waste of time, a pointless game mechanics that rewards very little. It's just not worth the effort.

I like the recipe where you can make screws directly from ingots. At the beginning this is super convinient. Later on people like screws directly from Steel Beams.
