clear the map of my buildings (keeping only the slugs and tickets in inventory), and start over
that way I don't need to go get hard drives again
Base #1 - No foundations, everything is chaotic messy, everything is based Tier 1 belts and basic recipes. Power only through biofuel.
Base #2, usually replaces base #1 completely, uses Tier 2 belts for minimal functions, Gets me through steel processing and eventually coal power. I usually replace this when I am able to research the steel screw. I usually let this run a few days to build up enough mats (reforced plates, steel bars/pipes, etc.) to build base #3.
Base #3 - Go somewhere completely different on the map, but usually pretty close to base #2. Full tier 3 belts, steel screw recipe (!!) and enough alternate recipes to get me through aluminum, oil processing.
Base #4 - Often starts somewhere completely new. with good access to resources. Fuel power, Tier 5 belts, mostly alternate recipes. Eventually gets me through through the end of Tier 8, slowly but surely. This usually includes a "mall" where I have build outputs to storage containers for all consumables - Belts, motors, cables, wires, quickwire, etc. I use this to build...
Base #5 - My "end game" base where I begin with a goal in mind (i.e. 2/4 end-game parts per minute.) I usually pick a "theme" (rails everywhere, centralized base, highly distributed manufacturing, etc.) and build it up. This is where things get fun and you have to start to do heavy-duty planning. Nuclear power, eventually reprocessing to plutonium.
this.....100% i do the same.
Blueprints allows you to easily put together efficient, nice looking layouts. Also there is a delete mode to delete an entire Blueprint at once rather than all the individual parts — making wiping away entire factories and building them back up again fairly quick and easy.
Blueprints allows you to focus on what you’re trying to accomplish rather than the mundane details of placing parts over and over.
I'll typically keep my original base up and running until I get oil, turbo fuel, jet pack and cleared out a miminum of one third of alt-recipies at crash sites.
Also don't forget to purchase as many building stuff in the store with tickets.
At this point I can go tear down my first spaghettis and repurpose them at whatever pace suits me for whatever goal suits me. Plus, since I have other "starting" areas my raw material production is never disrupted.
If you get into the habit of restarting maps then you're committing to finding those stupid pods all over again. I get the appeal that some of that random selection adds variety for some, but once I knew how I wanted to start building things late game the pods just became an annoyance such that on my last restart I just clicked the option to discover them all up front. I still run through the tiers as normal but pod-hunting just isn't fun after the nth map.
And when you do, overclock every mk2 miner.
