I don't know, I'll check that I have everything updated and such, but I don't think that's the problem. Thanks for the interest and help.
What is your draw distance set at? Are all of your settings maxed out?
The game for me is memory bound.
What I'm seeing is when FPS drops it is hitting the CPU memory subsystem hard.
The game is also really sensitive to CPU/RAM hardware errors.
Basically I think its the animations en-masse. Like fuel generators are terrible because of the piston animation.
R5 5600, 32GB DDR4 3200 CL16, RX 6650 XT
Get around 90 FPS high settings even in a big factory.
Get around 30-40 FPS when I look at my fuel generators in the middle of the map from any distance (Around 90GW of diluted fuel from a single fracking node)
Its not terrible its just that my CPU usage remains around 5-9% and GPU usage actually drops from 100% to 60-70%.
From what I can tell the game likes fast ram, and lots of it. The game seems to be mostly hindered based on the CPU/Memory interface. Lots of cache misses go to RAM.
Today I still play on Linux (Manjaro) and it doesn't happen. Either the game or Vulkan has improved since then and it doesn't happen anymore.
Nowadays I still cover things (most of them) to gain FPS: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3368962108
It seems to have been fixed for 1.0, although I haven't built at the same scale as in my EA playthrough yet
Enabling Hierarchical Z-Buffer Occlusion did resolve the issue :-) And I see no performance hit (FPS wise) so far.
In my case, this happens when I have a LOT of walls too (I'm building a very large resource hub, over the void north of the Dune Desert, sandwiched between the desert and the world border, where I gather all the resource on the map to a single place, to re-distribute it to the different factory, via trains, so you can imagine how big this place is
Never bought a "1.0" game with so many bugs. Game should be called a bugs life.
