Every storage box and every container should come with a sign on it.
It gets even worse by the fact that we can't mass drop items on the floor where you would see them

what about storage boxes, they have place for signs?
I have so many of them and I have to memorize all
Usually I try to have of everything one (except quartz, silica and screws) an of cement, rods, plates, fuel many and cables two

If I'm going out to build something specific, I'll adjust accordingly. Like pretty soon I'm going to expand my fuel power plant and I know those will need lots of HMFs, motors and rubber, but on the other hand RIPs and EIBs are not needed.
For exploration I'll drop all duplicates because I'll only need materials for crash sites (which only need small amounts) or constructing temporary structures to access places (which I'll dismantle when I'm done with them, so no materials consumed in the end).
but you see: only 7 slots free. now you pick up a harddisk which you discover by chance, a mercer sphere, a sommerslop, a hog, stinger and hatcher remain, a paleberry a berylnut, a beacon agaric ... oh wait a moment ... no place for that. And there's a power slug, oh darn! and what about the Mycelia right there in the swamp in front of me?
you begin building Crafts Benchs and Equipment Workshop to free some slots. In fact, at the crash site was more material which you also picked up, so the hassle begun much earlier than mushroom. And fuel is also down soon you you are in the middle in the swamp. Didn't plan it but occasion of the hard disk drove you there. Now what you do? You proceed with no fuel or back to the base because you had one slot little for a second fuel?
now lets say you have 10% bigger pockets, then you have 13 free. it's really not a lot more space but you have less of pocket hassle. tell me seriously that you would object to that?
Being in the middle of the swamp sounds like an exploration activity. Like I said I drop all duplicate stacks of items when I go exploring. That's 26 additional free slots, although I do then take some items I normally don't carry like stators and perhaps gunpowder. I also usually drive the explorer, so that's 12 extra cargo slots and a free crafting bench. When my inventory fills up with all the stuff I find from crash sites, I'm usually ready to turn back and go home anyway.
For all the love of the game: It is also quite nitpicking and tedious. Spontaineous actions like picking up this hard disk and change plans are still possible but lose a lot of easyness. You really need to plan everything and if you don't you have constantly too less pocket slots.
You didn't object though to the 6 more pocket slots as I see :-)
On the topic of 6 more pocket slots. Then it will be 6 more, and 6 more etc. There are mods for more pocket slots too.
I have something like +20% in mind. Still requires planing and automation but with much more wiggle room.
Was never a fan of modding but ... why not? I paid the game. I can do what I want.
:)
