Update 8 release date when?
Update 8 release date when?

Been holding off picking this up.... Don't want to start when the saves are not backwards compatible.

Did they ever say the saves weren't backwards compatible?

I'm fairly certain it was mentioned in one of their YouTube videos

Your saves will be fine. At least in the non-experimental version of the game.

Though you should still always make a backup of your saves because tech can be wired sometimes.

Trust me, by the time update 8 drops you will have restarted 5 times allready.

I dont remember an update where old saves wouldnt load into the new update. Although some changes were big enough that things broke like the day our coal power and nuclear died because pipes were added to the game. But I know of nothing like this in update 8 and even if there was something that breaks you can just go in and rebuild things to make it work again.

Saves will be fine, but some clipping will occure as they're doing some extensive changes to cliffs. Also might have to trim the bushes once more.

The release day for update 8 is unknown, they were aiming for a may release but ran into a lot of issues and problems so they postponed the day without disclosing any date since they didn't know. It could be delayed 1 month, 2 months, 4 months, they just don't know at this point due to the issues.

:steamthis:This!

The worst thing I had after an update was my aluminium line no longer running because the Bauxit nodes in the Titan Forest got "invalidated" (not sure how you would call a miner on the node no longer working unless you remove it and place it back down on it) but fixing that was pretty easy and quick though it caused problems down the line. Now I have two aluminium lines, both in separate places, producing what is needed individually. So if I fear that the one in the forest will not work I can switch over to the secondary one (a move I will do once Update 8 goes experimental).

Though you could say that when they completely redid the Spire Coast that you had to move everything out of there but they warned way ahead of this. And for Update 8 nothing as massive as that is planned. Just small reworks of cliffs and touch-ups of a few biomes (like the Titan Forest).

Saves are compatible with updates....
You still will have to do backups in case you get update in early access and decide to get back to previous version.

Is the game so bad that you can't start over? When update 8 hits, you are better off starting from scratch; especially with a game engine upgrade. I think blueprints could safely be backed up, since they aren't getting any major updates.

Edit: I think we are months away from update 8. Even when it does become available, it will be on experimental and would require a lot of testing, from start to finish. Don't even think about using mods.

I will guess no less than 1 year. Something always comes up in game development, and even more comes up when switching engines, no matter how similar they may be.
For what its worth, most Saves break when they move Well locations, even if its by a few inches, it causes unreal to crash as the Pressure machine on it is attempting to function on a now NULL code, this is rather common that I did try a save where people had wells, and before they did. BEFORE they did, their games still loaded fine, any games with Well machines crashed.

Effectively due to them moving a node, the machine over it was opening a file that no longer existed as its path had changed, thus when it defaulted to a NULL, the program crashes.

Loop Crash Errors are literally the bane of Unreal engine for many reasons but this one tends to be the largest one

Playing from release on Steam, always with same save/world. Never had a problem beside having some structures that had been sunken in rock formations (meaning, I can't change them anymore). But I knew that it could happen as I had built in dangerous zones (well known that were going in heavy transformations/changes)

An argument for getting this now and taking a chance your save might not work (dont recall mine ever doing that over the years) is this- Your first factory is not going to be a shining gem of efficiency or creativity :p

Honestly, this sale caught my eye: https://www.humblebundle.com/store/satisfactory

Sorry, Steam...

your decision to not but this from steam does not hurt their bottom line one bit.
you will still either need a steam account or epic games account to play anyway. Coffee Stain Studios still gets the proceeds... this game goes on sale here for the same $17.99 from time to time regardless. Steam doesn't care where you buy the game, neither does Coffee Stain Studios or Epic Game Store.
