write me if you need a template or an export of my VM that is already configured and ready to run
You can make a dedicated server on your own on a spare PC or on a VM.
With second option you have a couple choices...
There's some services that have a set of ready to use servers for (game of choice) or alternatively you can just rent a generic VM from any provider you are confortable with.
I've personally took the Google route with Google Compute Engine (GCE) that is basically you choose what kind of machine (eventually can change it on the fly anytime) and use it as you wish (in my case for Satisfactory).... but any other provider can be good as well (es. AWS or anything around the world)
Satisfactory server is ram intensive. If you plan to play with 4 players i'd check that they are offering more than 16gb ram.
for my experience with Google, RAM isn't a problem....
you get default predefined machines from witch you can choose a template.
Then you can change RAM or CPU or whatever you like with just a couple click and a restart
I know they claim a minimum of 12 GB and recommend 16, but I'm seeing paid options with less than 8 GB. Do I really need 16GB (and a heck of a lot more cash) to run a dedicated server?
you don't at very beginning but you will after few days of play as your base expands or if theres more than a two players at same time
So in your case, I would definitevely start at least at 12 gigs
In my personal case I use GCP and I can change ram settings with a couple click and a restart of server.... And just a look from time to time with "top" command to see if i've enough ram
and had to increase it from time to time
