how is it that conveyor belts consume no energy and never breakdown?
having worked in a sawmill festooned with conveyors for 2 decades, i can assure you that conveyor belts fail with great frequency and consume significant amounts of power. that i can ribbon the map with conveyors that never require maintaining, or power, seems ludicrous to me. trains use power, trucks use fuel, drones use fuel, conveyors are free of such burdens. one could also introduce more power consumption and or maintenance in hostile environments.

my 2 cents anyway...

It's intentional, but there is now a mod that requires conveyor belts to have power if you want it that way.

I personally have no desire to run next to my sometimes very long conveyers or between all my production lines to find the one peace of belt that broke and jams my whole factory.

But have you ever worked on a space sawmill?

If the Belts also carried said power like Rails that might be pretty cool, eliminate all the wiring.

You know now that you say it, I'm surprised it's not like that already.

While I sympathize with your position, I'm not sad about the way things currently work.

If only this was a computer game and not a real life sawmill.

Waiting till release before I do mods, But that is one I'd want to try.

I agree that conveyors should require energy, but I'm not a fan of making them break down, especially given that everything else Just Works and never breaks (space magic I guess). The suggestion of having them carry power is great, and minimizes additional power routing complexity as you're almost guaranteed to have buildings on either end connected to the power grid.

The price is FPS...

Repairs all over the map would make this an impossible pain in the kester. Don't even suggest we need to run around greasing all the bearings and other moving parts to make it fun.

Don't get be started on replacing the belts themselves. These things wear over time.

I get it though, nothing in game currently wears out or requires oil. Yet nearly everything requires power.

It could be as simple as belts being connecting to buildings that are already powered. I mean a miner for instance isn't going to put anything on the belt unless it's powered right?

Thats the only way i see it being even remotely plausible.. zero (or next to zero) impact on current game mechanics.

exponential increase in power demand per meter would be interesting.
And hopefully a solution to the fps consumption

There's a reason why belts in all automation games don't break down overtime or use power.
It would be WAY too tedious.

I do not know if this is the case I think rather not
I have not tested the mod and for me that is also nothing I think the factories would then no longer work for me because the power is missing
