smart or programmable merger
is there a smart or programmable merger in this game? so that it will stop the feed from 1 or 2 sides of the merger if the 1 side has part coming in?

no, there is no merger than allows you to prioritize inputs. Not in vanilla at least.

I want a switch. Let me use the merger and splitter as diverters, go one way or the other. It's getting annoying having to dismantle a conveyor and replace it going the other way. I'd also like to trigger a switch remotely so I don't have to run all the way to my copper mine to shut it down when I need to switch the rest of the system back to making steel.

There is a way to make a fluid priority merger and splitter by taking advantage of how fluids work. Sadly I know of now easy way to do this with conveyors but I wish there was. A smart merger would be very useful to me.

some of these things are likely only go to live via mods. but we still hope some of this gets in the base game.

Their is a intelligent Switch then, just build this at your Copper Things and get the energy going trough it. You can now go to any other intelligent switch (I build one beside my Hub which isn't even at the electricity net) and you can turn it off in the Menu their.

This switch also gives you the Option to Priorize Switch Groups, you can drag and drop Intelligent switches (which are renamable) to a Group.
This is in fact one of the best Options in the Game :D
My Energy production is in Group one, other Productions in 2-8.
If your network is consuming more energy then it can handle you now don't need to run to you energy production to start it again with other Options. It will Turn down the switches one by one, so if you get a new big thing connected it will shut down Group 8, if thats not enough group 7, then 6 till it can hold the energy again making it impossible your Energy production is shutting down ever again if you set it in Group 1 and seperate it from everything else with a Intelligent Switch couse till it reach this switch the whole rest of your base is shutted down and energy Production lines always produce enough to support themselfs.
Then you can build more Energy, run to the next intelligent switch and try to turn on 1 Group after another till your whole base is running again.

I also wish there is something like programmable merger too. I have tried some design in game and found that it is impossible to achieve the functionality like setting priority input. It is a necessary part if you want to put various items in one conveyor belt supply to buildings like Manufacturers, and a merger with priority input setting can prevent being stuck if buildings can not consume these inputs
