if you play online, and it is your server, look if there is a save from a few minutes before the crash.
that being said the issue you have is your steam and/or epic profile not being available when you load the game meaning you cannot be linked to your prior character. This happens alot if you have unstable internet or routinely change what steam/epic account you might be logged into. Even though the can be played as single player and even offline the game still treats every thing as if its multiplayer so it has to have some way to identify which in game character you belong to when you load into the game. So if you load into a game but it cant link you to any character already on the map it will spawn you as a new player in the hub.
hopefully before the game actually gets released they will have made this process a little better in the final version of the game.
The only time I had an issue was when I started the game with steam in offline mode.

This happens because your in-game avatar is linked to your Steam/Epic ID. If you then join the game while Satisfactory is in offline mode, it can't work out which body is yours so spawns you in a new one.
This dev video explains why in game avatars are linked to platform IDs and why the avatars stay in game after disconnect, which in part is why this issue exists:

I think there is somewhere a video specifially explaining the duplicate body bug but I can't find it
Damn, this kills the will to play this game more...
Hmm weird. I always open satisfactory directly from the icon instead of opening steam first. Maybe that's the issue.
Edit: actually, it can't be that because it always syncs the game files before it launches anyway so steam must be in online mode to do that.
(I know this because I often have the online map open in a second monitor, and I need to open the latest save file with that, and it's always available as soon as the intro screen launches ... Oh and I always use the game file read only, I never let it write to it).
I must have had to kill my virtual avatar I'd say something like 50-100 times before and finally I did a bit of experimenting and solved it!
So @still B0r3d .. it wasnt exactly what you said, but you inspired me, so thank you!
My problem was that on one machine I was logged into Steam AND epic, on the other machine I was only logged into Steam. So I went to this screen and logged into Epic and it fixed it...

You cant imagine how annoying that was, thanks guys for the motivation to try and fix it. YESSSSS!
So try logging into steam AND epic.
