Still Bor3d has pretty much got it right, but i'll provide a little more context.
Regarding respawning with starter items:
This is a known issue that is either caused by playing offline or if a connection cannot be made to Steam/Epic.
When you load into a game, we use your Steam ID to determine which pawn in game you should re-possess (as there may be multiple pawns in a multiplayer game). If, for some reason, an online connection cannot be made your Steam ID cannot be determined and therefore the game creates a new starter pioneer when you spawn in.
The workarounds are to:
A) try restart the game unless something funky happened
B) check to make sure there is nothing interfering with your connection to steam/you are not in offline mode
C) if this keeps occurring, your old pioneer should be where you last left her. You can just kill them and take their items.
We do intend to find a solution for this issue as it has been known for years, but yeah idk maybe we should just blame Goat Simulator instead? xD
Today was one of the first times I didn't guarantee my connection with my hotspot phone since I was at Starbucks, but the internet was fading in and out.
I'm just glad my original came back. All those explosives and hand and foot Eq I don't need to remake.
