I think it's an intended visual effect and also a great addition to the look of the game. A lot of stuff in the game looks used and dirty, as it should in this environment. We are starting from scratch on a new planet and neat and tidy are pretty far down the list of priorities.
Just my two cents. If you think it's unsightly, that's okay, too.
but you are making a factory out in a wide open world where dirt exists you dont even have complete walls and roofs to keep the dust from coming in. even with walls and doors some dirt is always going to get in. have you ever visited a real factory? My father hauled for the automakers and as a kid I was in and out of many large car part factories and they are anything but clean.
On another note, I work for at least 2 factories - one making aircraft seats and one kitchen cupboards, they are super clean. Spillages are not allowed and dirt gets sucked out by appropriate system. They have cleanliness instructions all over the place. I guess forges would not be as clean (never been in one), but I bet modern ones would at least try.
As far as your attitude goes, someone did try to give you an explanation (hurenogeko): "The lighting in the game can get a bit weird at time, like how I can see the sunrise reflected off the foundations in my completely enclosed factory floor with zero windows."
I have had this happen as well.
if I can find it I will link interview that snutt I think did with the guy who handles "technical animations" and he explains the limitation and progression of things like lights and shadows within the game and why they changed things.
