[@Devs] Factory Placement: Mirror Option (Request)
How often have you been in a position where you have been attempting to satisfy your little OCD itch with your factories, making sure to place them all in a nice and neat little row and making certain the ones directly across from them are in the exact same nice row - only to find that no matter what you do, your inputs are NOT going to match up because the inputs are now on the OPPOSITE side as the ones across from them?

I'm not saying this is a big thing or anything... but it's super annoying to try and get your factories to line up ~just right~ and not match up when you're trying to use as few splitters or mergers as possible to keep your area clean and uncluttered looking (plus it helps to cut down on the overall product usage cost).

What could help resolve this matter would be something super simple: the option to mirror the item being placed down. Be that item nothing more than a merger/splitter or a full-blown factory. The mirror option would be used to flip the manner in which the items are being used upon entry into the devie/factory/what-have-you, it would just simply be a means to ensure your inputs or outputs are now on the opposite sides, so more of a cosmetic change than anything really.

I would like to request this be added into the game if at all possible (rather than by a mod) as I can see this getting annoying fast - already spent nearly 2 hours (no, I'm not over-exaggerating) trying to get the 8 coal factories I am setting up to sit across from one another and actually get the coal inputs to line up along with the pipe inputs, but due to them being on opposite sides now, that is just never going to be possible and I cannot tell you how maddening that is proving to be.

Full support of this idea

This was discussed in the last dev Twitch stream. Nothing either way.

I'm sorry, but what do you mean by "Nothing either way"? Do you mean, they didn't come to a conclusion on if this would be added, or if it wouldn't be possible to be added, or if it was something they were just simply never going to implement?

TLDR; there is no dev support currently, post your suggestion on the QA site so they can actually see your opinion. https://questions.satisfactorygame.com/

Refineries are the bane of my game. I also wanted to line up the inputs but with the rotating reversal, I have to have the refineries offset. Tingles my OCD.

I've been able to tolerate just building bigger than expected, big ol buffers on eachbside so everything can still be centered but with extra intricacies per side. But I'm starting to build big enough to overwhelm the world size now...

what I wouldnt mind is mirror placement or blueprints so I dont have to make two of every blueprint to support each direction I want to build.

to address your coal plant issue...what I do is this: I line up the plants across from each other with the conveyors lines up as it makes it easier to use a single splitter between them. the pipes I tend to have one going down each side so that isnt as much a concern for me so long as the conveyor holes are lined up. and even f I have a single pipe...I just put a single pipe junction over the splitter and using horizonal to vertical pipes you can make a nice looking pip that goes 90 degrees towards the input then straight down....something conveyors are bad at doing.

I actually ran across a very nice build suggestion on YouTube (reverted to there for some inputs and ideas on how others have built theirs compact and such) and I'm planning on building multiple little builds nearer to the water, rather than having a singular massive coal plant location like I'd been doing.

1. It will allow for a easier and more controlled environment as each water pump will be connected to just the right amount of refineries and any 'left-over' water can be pumped out elsewhere as needed.

2. It will allow my OCD to be satisfied and permit me to build something that's small and much nicer once I've gotten windows unlocked at long last!

Thank you so much for the helpful advice though, the information will still most likely be used during my building process. ^u^
