Particle Accelerators
So this is my first time using a particle accelerator and while using it, it says its max 1500MW but it goes over that limit and just ramps up in MW the more it's working? How do you power these things

The game assumes you have graduated to nuclear power and are converting your uranium waste into plutonium for either use in generating electricity or are going to sink it and dispose of the plutonium fuel cells. I have four particle accelerators running to make plutonium fuel to make power. I have 14 uranium reactors feeding 9 plutonium reactors making a nominal of 179 gigawatts of power. I'm running a 100+ more milestones mod and it has some insane power requirements.

I'm currently on 8 coal generators and a bunch of geothermal generators and 2 fuel generators, about 3.5-4k MW total. Should I get nuclear power plants running first?

make a small fuel plant to cover the costs or make power storages

geo thermal is a waste of time as it is unstable, if or when you can you can use fuel power to help...as for nuke power that requires alot of everything to run and keep running...my power is around 50% fuel(400 plants) and 50% nuke power(currently at 35 coolin towers)...

Particle accelerators do not have a constant power draw. As they progress through the cycle, the energy drain varies from 250MW to 1500MW. Each recipe has a different average power, the wiki lists those averages I think. You can use batteries to provide buffer energy storage if your grid can't handle the peak 1500MW but can handle the average.

However.

8 coal generators, 2 fuel generators, and some geothermal generators is a very small amount of power generation for your point in the game.
Case in point, in my current game I have not reached particle accelerators yet and I have 40 coal gens and 302 fuel gens running on turbofuel.

I don't think the game expects you to have set up nuclear power before particle accelerators (I didn't in my last playthrough), but it does I think expect more power gen than you've got.

Geez I need to improve that area then, how many water extractors/coal miners you got hooked up to the coal gens?

Sorry, I meant 64 coal gens and 264 fuel gens. Total production 44'070MW.
I build coal gens in blocks of 8. The earlier blocks had 3 water extractors per 8 (3 produces exactly the right amount of water for 8). For the later blocks I had 1 water extractor underclocked to 75% for every 2 gens (simpler pipework)
They are supplied by mk2 miners on one pure, one normal, and two impure coal nodes. All overclocked to 200%.

Nuclear energy is a fun and complex process, but not for everyone I imagine. It took a learning curve to get it all figured out and running trouble free and worry free so I wouldn't need to keep fiddling and fine tuning it all to work. I'm running mod's... one that makes creating a huge nuclear plant possible is a infinite filter mod. one iodine infused filter that never needs changed, and also the "Big water extractor and buffer" mod. I have 10 water extractors each with 6 outputs feeding all my nuke reactors. All the plutonium waste is flown out to the middle of the ocean in a huge off shore storage facility.. 250 industrial containers. There is a mod that will allow waste plutonium to be "sunk" but i have spend considerable amount of time making my waste storage floating platform.

I'd suggest setting up a good power generation plant running on turbofuel maxing out a pure oil node rather than going straight to nuclear.

p.s...you will need partical accelerators before nuke power, as you will need them to make nuke pasta which is needed for space lift tier 8

You should get fuel running first. I don't know how you have only 2 fuel generators from all the oil products you need to make. You need to scale up the existing power first. Nuclear will need quite some power to even start running.

Thanks for help yall, I got my base improved from 4k to 20k MW now, the problem was I had the particle accelerator maxed out with power shards and I didn't know it had a giant leap of MW consumption, making nuclear pasta now

The power usage from overclocking is exponential so overclocking the most power drawing machines means also a huge increase in power demand.

Geothermal is an obvious candidate to be combined with batteries. You could say solar is 'unstable' in real life, and how have we solved that problem?

How you up to the point of building particle accelerators but only using 3-4k mw?
