All of your equipment is standard issue. You are a faceless, inconsequential peon of an interstellar superpower/corporation. You could even be one of thousands of identical clones dropped off in identical gear across thousands of largely identical worlds. The anonymity is the defining attribute of your character.

You are on MASSAGE-2(A-B)b in the binary star system of Akycha for three purposes: build buildings, chart the planet and gather resources, and automate factories. That's it. Basically, if it doesn't further project assembly, it isn't an option FICSIT would give you.

Yes, I know: a coffee cup, statues, doggos. However, the coffee cup encourages you step back and share your progress with other FICSIT pioneers, which collectively pushes the employment base to strive for greater achievements. Likewise, the statues convey the effort you have put into production, efficiency, and the Awesome Sink. The doggo is a spy of the alien presence found across the planet, and is likely going to kill you in your sleep. Kill all you see.

A final point: it's a game, and this game isn't finished. The devs may already be planning to add some customization options that fit within the context of the setting they have created. The lack of customization could just as likely be kept, with more story elements that explain why you are the vague persona that you are. Either way, people have been playing static characters in video games for decades. You couldn't customize Commander Keen, Mario, or Pacman, and yet people had no problem playing a giant yellow disc with two animation sequences.

Sure, why not? ...would give us some more stuff to buy in the awesome shop, or maybe we could trade products for some customization outfits. Wouldn't hurt the game play at all and maybe we get some more objectives to complete?

ok i agree for me it is more of a singleplayer game
there is a mod where you can color the char but whether that works on server no idea as I said multiplayer is not so my thing.

Could be more of an issue that people don't like the idea of the woman being the lesser being stuck on the miserable planet and subservient to an unknown overlord organization (of men? GASP!!!).

Well, from what we know (sort of) the head of FICSIT Inc is a woman (Caterina Parks; https://satisfactory.fandom.com/wiki/Caterina_Parks) so keep on speculating.
