Packaged fuel
Are you able to use the packaged in something like the fuel power plant? Do you just have to hook the packaged fuel on a conveyor belt into the machine?

Nope. You can either use it for the jetpack, vehicles, or you'll need to unpackage it.

Using packaged fuel is one way to get around piping everything.
After packing it, transport it to a packager near the fuel generator and then unpack it.
The Packager is used for both packing or unpacking fluids....

Fuel Generator only has a pipeline input so any fuel has to be 'unpackaged' via the Packager first, use packaged fuel for vehicles (fuel, turbo & bio) and jetpack (fuel only)

Perfect, that works for what I want to do with it. Thanks

There are two alt recipes that let you make fuel from heavy oil residue and water, which have the advantage of making more fuel for less oil.

The best one uses the Blender, and works with all fluids.
The other one uses the Refinery, it only has one fluid input anf output, so it uses packaged water and outputs packaged fuel. So you need to pack water and unpack fuel either side.
The Blender is unlocked way later than the Refinery, so to take advantage of the diluted fuel recipe earlier, you have to deal with the fuel being packaged.

As mentioned earlier, packaged fuel can be transported if you don't want to pipe it, but there are advantages to pipes. For starters, they don't have as much animation so when you think about what all those conveyors are doing to your CPU/GPU, you may just want to use pipes instead. There are no indicator pipes that don't have any animation what so ever. Trains can carry liquid or stackable cargo so when you unlock them, you may want to keep things fluid just for that animation save. If you don't want to use conveyors but don't have trains yet, you can set up truck routes but they can be finicky. I personally skipped that step and went straight from conveyors to trains and then drones. I'm still in my first game though so maybe next time I'll try truck routes. The drones are great for shuttling radioactive materials high over head.
