RTX 3080 Power Consumption 90 %
When I start Satisfactory, the fans in my computer immediately start running on high speed and the power consupmtion of my graphics card is reaching 90 % and more. Including performance caps. I face the sae problem with Civilization 6. Never had this issue before. Is it normal?

That's a GPU's normal behaviour if no FPS limit is set and no other limits occur. Set a FPS limit and your GPU will only use the power needed to reach the desired FPS.

I set the limit to 120 and my GPU's usage is only at 50-60 % @ 5120x1440p while using 220 W of power (RTX 4090).

Unbelievable. You were right. It helped. Thanks a lot!

always set fps limit. my 4090 provides 400-500 fps in the starting zone, draws 420 watts. pure waste. 144 hz keeps it under 200 watts.

it's actually alot more efficient than my 1080ti + 9900k. 150watts less in total with same fps.

There's generally no reason to have a higher fps cap than your monitor's refresh rate.

But, but, mah input delays! I need to be running my games at 500fps like a true PC master race member!

Nah. 60's fine for most things. I've usually got Vsync on too since I really hate tearing. Of course I don't play competitive games, so I'm not going to be bothered by a handful of milliseconds.

at some point it became the norm to hate on things like fps caps and vsync lol, not sure why cause i always have ran all my games with nvidia control panel forced vsync+ tripple buffer. this ensures that every single game will always be capped at my monitor's refreshrate and theres no inconsistency in performance.(as long u tweak your games resolution/graphics to utilize about <80-90% gpu) sure it might add a few miliseconds of delay, but that too is consistent across all games and never posed a problem for me, the brain instantly adjusts to that delay. the only exception for this might be competitive pvp games but i dont play those. (and a rare few games get their mouse sensitivity heavily impacted by vsync like terraria, but thats all that comes to mind)

running fps uncapped just sounds like a way to send your gpu to a early grave

edit: one other thing to take note of, the satisfactory main menu seems to be a good benchmark as it always sends my gpu to 100% usage, as if someone build the world's largest factory offscreen lol, this can also impact the noise your fans make. nowhere in the actual game have i been able to hit 100% yet

Enable vsync or add a hard fps cap in your driver's game config. If you allow your card to go all out, of course it will go all out.
