Darn Fixsit had me fooled. I had no idea they kept dropping me off at the same planet.
Will the devs expand to another planet or will they just keep making this one bigger?
Can mods make new planets?
You never know what modders can do.
The singular map with fixed resource locations is one of the 2 major shortcomings I identified in my first 40 or so hours of game play. I am hopeful 1.0 might address them to some extent.
Apparently, there's a space elevator visible on one of the moons/planets orbiting above us. Foreshadowing maybe?
Here is a mod with a map that is very dull.

Modders can try to create a mod that loads different maps, but one wonders how that will go especially if Coffee Stain coded the game and the map code very tightly coupled together.
I don't think we have the software tech to make random maps like this yet.
They could make a lot money just making planet DLC...hint...hint.
I would definitely not mind paying extra for tweaked maps like this. They could make some money by just having a dev devoted to making new maps for DLC. Its all just level design. The engine is already there.
Its just sad to see all my factories build and then I get trains lol. Its like its too late for them.
Maybe if they just randomized when you get certain vehicles in the tech chain.
Or... the tech tech tree could be the circular ring variety where you get to choose which of the Tiers you want to investigate. The inner ring, would have tier 1 resource requirements to unlock the lowest tech item in the tier. So transportation might have tractor on Tier 1, power systems the biomass, organization a personal storage box, the first conveyor belt, but you get to pick which direction you want to go. Maybe you're like me and prefer a logistics path, so focus more on that.
For a creative sandbox, this game is VERY linear and controlled in what you are allowed to do and when. ...but yes the tech tree interface would have to be overhauled in that case.
