I played with 1-2 friends while inviting them to "my world" (the save file we all played on) and it worked pretty well. Vehicles like trucks sometimes were not displayed correctly on the map for my friends and there is a bug that shows already removed trees for people that join (no clue if that one is still around). Other than that no real issues we encountered.
Sometimes she can't see my marker on her compass; that's about it. For the most part, it's been pretty stable.
Bear in mind, it's going to depend on the quality of your internet connection; and the PC with the better CPU/RAM would make the better host....
CAVEAT: If the "Host" doesn't start their game, no one else can play together.
The "Host" could also play the shared world when no one else is around; so make sure to discuss and set rules before deciding who's hosting.
It may also make a difference if not all players are on the same gaming network (Steam vs Epic). I want to recall there is an option for play between Epic & Steam clients, but but I've never looked into it;
