I've heard no intentions of making the game a long-term service, and I pray to the voices in my head from the Somersloops that they never will. If you truly want to kill a game, you make it a live service.
All the popular games right now are live service why wouldnt u want that? New content keeps the game fresh and interesting
Live services demand a constant flow of money. Money that is constantly drained from the players themselves by keeping content from them. If the players don't have a constant flow of disposable income, they get left behind. If the game itself does not generate enough money, it gets left behind. Then you'll get no proper ending, and no continued content.
Yes.
I expect the post-1.0 future will be mods, I do not expect a DLC/expansion, new ores, parts, milestones, phases, machines or map. If I'm wrong I'm wrong.
An early access game can definitely be complete on 1.0 release then go on for years with content updates (Astroneer), it just rarely happens.
Story is fine: Exploit planet and send resources to homeworld. Check!
Goals/Leveling is fine: Unlock recipes and tinker with your factory to improve design. Check!
What I suspect it lacks is an endgame.
Personally, I have not completed all goals yet, so I'm speculating a bit. I just feel like when all leveling goals are completed, and the factory is running... the will to play will rapidly die. What exactly will I be doing at that point? Waiting for an expansion?
What could the Satisfactory endgame be?
Eventually you will complete or be satisfied with your progress in completing every phase, milestone, ficsit coupon, collectable and factory you build/optimise (I doubt a lot of players will not finish all phases+milestones before quitting)
Find different ways to get your factory running, as well as looking nice, create awkward and crazy builds or go nuts with efficiency. If you feel like you've done all there is to do, then you've gotten your moneys worth and it's time to move on to another game.
Not every game needs an "end-game" with some degree of end-less replayability, it's okay for games to end and for you to finish them.
