compacted coal
i just looked at the alterative wiki, and it dosnt say anything. so is it a better alternative? (i have 8 coal plants, 1 pump for each, and a failing power grid) idk if i should switch.

Per resource used you get less megawatts out of compacted coal. With the exception of underclocking. I used compacted coal for trucks and regular coal for power.

Fix first, reconsider switching after.

Check connections, power lines etc. One Exctractor should deliver exactly 45 units to the plant.
Is the coal being delivered?
Do you get any water inside the coal generators?
Screenshots?

Use just two pumps to get it to Power Station (assuming your 8 'coal plants' means 8 Coal Generators).

120 120 120 | < 60 | 60 > | 180 180

Compacted coal burns at a slower rate than regular coal, allowing you to run more generators off of a single coal node, at the expense of using sulfur. IF your grid is failing then you need to isolate the failure. Are you getting coal and water to all generators? Have you waited for coal to even out and make it to all generators?

When all machines are taken into account, compact coal made from 120 coal and 120 sulfur generated just about the same usable power as 240 coal.

If the gens are failing, they're not getting either water or coal.

If you want to maximize the power you get from a coal node, then compacted coal does that.

If you only have 8 coal generators, then I would say, don't bother, as you can easily just add on more generators for your power needs. But once you've saturated the amount of power you are getting from your coal node and need more power, then I would say consider switching to compacted coal.

Compacted coal isn't really worth it for coal generators.

Making turbo fuel and using fuel generators -- that's a different story.

Well the same conclusion from a different story: the compacted coal isn't worth this either. Blender Turbo fuel saves more on sulfur.

Sulfur is a rare resource, so I don't use it for coal generators. Turbofuel sees me through most of the game. I build giant turbofuel plants as soon as I can, and save sulfur for that.

I would also rather use compressed coal for turbo fuel for coal-fired power plants it is a waste.

That's my fuel/turbofuel breakdown. Its an older post but the recipes are the same
Assuming all alternates, here's the short version:

Diluted fuel - least resources, easy setup (easpecially if you use blenders), decent power.

Blended turbofuel - Adds some sulfur, complicated setup, 33% more power over diluted.

Refinery turbofuel - Adds over double the sulfur needed for blended (converting 300 oil needs almost 10% of the map's sulfur), an equal amount of coal, easy but large setup, 122% more power over diluted.

Turbo heavy fuel - just don't.

Why for compacted coal machine is Assembler. It is weird if i make compacted coal but i see that machine do something of metal.:steamhappy:

Because you need two materials to craft it thus you need an assembler as it has two inputs.

Me personally I consider compacted coal as a gimmick with no real use up to the point where you can produce turbo fuel. And for certain MAM researches. It WOULD be good for vehicles if the stacks were 200 like solid biomass. But with a stack of 100 solid biomass is much better.

Ehmm ... the compacted coal lasts longer in the coal generator than the normal coal. You can see in the Coal Generator that the cycle time per 1 coal/compacted coal gets longer with compacted coal.

But in my opinon this is uninteresting because the effort to produce compacted coal is too elaborate and the benefit for coal generators to small.

Compacted coal gets interesting for producing Turbo Fuel. I assume that the Jet Package will allow longer flights with Turbo Fuel. But I am not yet there. Till now the compacted coal is just a gimmick, no real use for it other than for certain MAM researches. where compacted coal is needed.
