Beginner advice on pumps?
I can't seem to get pumps to work no matter what. Where do I put them? Am I being unrealistic in my pipeline design? I'm just trying to pipe fuel across the map so I can power up all my buildings.

Pumps are only useful if you are going up hill with fluid. If you have a pipe that needs a pump place it at the lowest point there is fluid in the pipe.

If you put your pipes on ramps it makes it easier to figure out where to put the pumps. Pumps push the liquid up 20 meters vertically, so if you use 4 meter ramps, then you need to put a pump every 5 blocks up the ramp, if you use 2 meter ramps you need to put a pump every 10 blocks, etc... The oil extractor only pushes up 10 meters so your first pump has to be where the pipe is less than 10 meters above the extractor.

Pumps don't do anything for a level pipe and going down hill gravity takes over.

The best advice about fluids is to move them as little as possible, especially to higher heights. Refine them on site and move the solids, or for power generation build the gens at the fluid location and just use power poles to send the power back to your base.

For pumps, they need to be placed facing the right direction, powered, and they work by resetting the headlift to the amount they specify, meaning you want to space them out by roughly the amount of headlift they reset to.

okay so my first major issue is that I was building the pumps and then connecting the pipes to them. i did not realize you could manually place a pump on an existing pipe. still figuring it out and I appreciate the advice. been studying wikis but the learning curve gets STEEP when physics gets involved 😵😵

thanks again and merry christmas!

NGL i would just turn that into packaged fuel and use a train or if you haven't unlocked it yet use tractors.
