What's up with the giant green stinger? It's almost 2 times bigger, but only gives the same 5 parts

Are these just different skins? Or is it a relic of the past without the cheat mode to go through trees?

This is an alpha variant of the normal spider. They are stronger have more HP compared to the regular one.

They can also jump really high so be cautious, they can get up the side of a cliff in no time.

Really high is a understatement, the one if the swamp can jump higher then the trees...

I was flying by and just happen to stop above it. Damn thing scared the hell out of me as I see this large fast moving thing coming at me out of the trees....

These are both Elite gas stingers, you can see they are both green and they dropped 5 parts.

The alpha stingers are black and smaller with some green lights from their fangs and drop 3 parts. The smallest stingers are also black and give only 1 part.

Got a nice haul from taking a stroll in the bamboo forest :P

On your screenshots both the "normal" stinger and the green one look unnaturally large but this might just be how close you are to their corpses?

Either way this looks more like a modded playthrough if anything on first glance.

Edit: noticed that both of the corpses are toxic stingers. The corpses are still unnaturally large though.

I don't use mods unless I'm replaying a game and only if it's full game mods, like the few made for terraria and starbound.

I posted these because as I mentioned, the AI of the much bigger green one felt different and it's size is like 2 times. Just wanted to know if it's just a different skin, or a leftover from a past update.

To answer your question, toxic stingers are "elite" variants of the normal stinger. So no, not a leftover but another challenge for the pioneer to overcome.
