Just a note:
Many of your questions could be answered in like 5 seconds by yourself if you simply used google or the wiki. There is nothing wrong with using the forum but asking basic questions like these nonstop...
It's very strange that we need tier 8 when many of the oil recipes need water. Is there even a way to scan for water?
I use google first but many of the answer are not that easy to find and the ingame codex doesn't help either.
It's also kinda funny something that is common in the world of today is seen as one of the most advanced and hard to make things in an advanced society.
Early game, tier 3 unlocks the Water Extractor, that can produce water from any sufficiently large and deep body of water like ponds, lakes and oceans
Water Extractors are Tier 3.

The entire map is surround by water and most of oil nodes are located near a body of water. You don't need tier 8.
Water nodes are just a bonus to hep with getting water to a factory should it be far away from a body of water, such as in the desert area.
And much of what you have already asked here comes automatically with time.
Strange they would place a water node right next to the starting base, ofc people are going to ask how to use it, since it's the closest source, and right where I'm building my refineries.
I think these threads can also help others in the same situation, and it actually makes the community here more active. I can't really see any negative point to these newb threads existing. Telling people not to ask questions is a good way to undermine the game though.
Actually of the things that motivated me to play this game more was the willingness of some people to answer questions. Kinda awkward XD
I guessing you misquoted the wrong post. I never told anyone not to ask questions. I simply stated the map is surrounded by water and the fact most oil nodes are also next to water.
Your second reply makes it seem like your complaining there is no water When there is lots of it.
As vectorspace pointed out, your spawn position can vary greatly and in most cases you will not spawn next to a water node, oil, or coal node. If you do, consider it blind luck.
Don't you spawn always in the middle of the map? And the map spots are always the same?
If so at least in the forest biome you have a water spout a short ways to the north, perfect because that's the direction of the oil deposits.
To get water from a lake it's at least 1000m towards south. Either way, I asked because I thought I was missing something.
I was excited finding the node, was about to mark it on the map to come back to later (when the newer save reached Tier 8) .... the noticed it was just Water. :S
Interesting, I thought it was one starter zone and all other zones higher leveled, but looking at a map of the spawning locations and water spouts it seems impossible not to wander into a few if you're looking for resources like coal, quartz, caterium, sulfur, or just exploring

I spawned right in the middle of snake forest so will always find a few of them when exploring to the north.
