Blueprints are not too small :-)
Played around with blueprints for a few hours. It's actually amazing what you can fit into a single blueprint if you try hard enough, especially if you go multi-layer.

Currently i'm working on preparing for Ficsmas (it's a lot of work building Santas sweatshop and only a limited time). You can put in 48(!) industrial storages, all chained together, into a single blueprint. Once done, you could put down enough storages in 5 minutes to store enough snowballs (or nuclear waste, if you are Josh from LetsGameItOut) to last you for years of constant playing ;-)

So, at least for me, the Blueprint designer is pretty much the correct size.

What do you think?

I noticed the comment in the release video about the blueprint designer that was: "Could be bigger.", I wonder if that means anything about their plans.

Well, that took no time at all. I swear, whoever makes these calls over at their team doesn't play their own game. They REALLY need to connect with their players more and use their experiences to make proper decisions.

On the left the original and next to it the one from the mod

By the way, blueprints created with the mod can also load anyone without ever having installed this mod.

Yup, as I said in my comment the game already has native support for larger blueprints. It's seriously just somebody at coffee stain that thought they know better and said "it will only be 4x4, end of story" and arbitrarily limited it... :steamfacepalm:

They seriously made a system that can support blueprints of various sizes at the same time, and then for some inexplicable reason they limit it to one size only, that is also too small for anything other than simple designs with smaller buildings. Just... how? Who makes these decisions?

the reason why the so small is that the players do not come so quickly to the construction limit actually they never wanted to bring blueprints into the game.
Is for me also more of an alibi function "we now have blueprints".
I have never needed blueprints neither the one with the inactive map nor with the mod "Factory Skyline
and I do not know if I will make this or with the mod much, I'm used to build everything nicely by hand without cloning.

Bah, just use it to make belted up row elements of basic setups. You can easily fit 2 constructors front or back facing each other connect belts and wiring and then you can put down instantly belted rows of constructors, the only thing you will have to do, is set their programmed part to make and connect the merger/splitters of each segment to the next. What would have been boring, tedious and repetitive work can now be done in 5% of the time.

Or how about the crazy amount of work you need to do to properly connect multiple blenders? Now you can just do that instantly, without fumbling around with distances conveyer poles, splitters and 4-way pipes. Do it properly once in such a way that you can just add an infinite number of them in a row, then save that.

That and cosmetic setups. I have a nice end of the rail trainstopper bumper thingy and good looking electric poles for long distance connection where I'm not using rails for it, like uphills or the like.

I really have no idea what you guys are complaining about, BPs are great. Not too small, not too big.

One must also write fair way that the larger blueprints can bring the game to shore up.
Says in the description of the mod that also has nothing to do with the mod, but the game can not handle such large data the mod uses pure vanilla code

i think its way too small tbh, i wish u could merge multiple designer modules together to extend the range. every single time im thinking of using it i run into size issues. like i wanted to use it today for a simple train track design that mainly uses empty platforms with a angled foundation bellow but of course its way to big

wished the had made it 5x5x5 instead of 4x4x4 so you could have dead center 4m foundation.

This is a very good point! Going with an even number was an odd choice. :lunar2019grinningpig:

The blueprint machine should at least hold the machines we can build. At 4x4x7 it doesnt.

That makes absolutely no sense. You are saying that the size of blueprints is limited to keep players from placing too many buildings? Wouldn't they also be able to place large amounts of buildings right now? To reach the limit you'd need to place many, many blueprints; letting players place buildings in slightly bigger groups won't change the outcome.

If 5x5 foundations dramatically increases the utility of designing factories with them, I don't see the harm in one small increase in size.

What does that exclude, the space elevator? Meh... not too concerning on its own.

Should be 5x5x5 though.

a trainstation needs a minimum width of 5, the current bpd size can't even be used for everything satisfactory offers as is... to make chunks of a factory clean without weird bending belts/rails, you need at least 12x8 for general use

I like using blueprints to get prefabbed pipe hookups on my machinery. This is especially handy for Blenders running a two-pipe recipe. If you don't prefab your pipe hookups and don't / can't build on the ground you have to build "scaffold pipes" for the junctions then delete the guides and hook up the real pipes. Wiith prefabs you just lay down however many machines then run pipes between the junctions.

For a back-to-back machine layout, which I use rather often, I use the prefabbed pipe version on one side and clean on the other. There's not enough room in the blueprint designer to do a full back-to-back unit, but piping the clean line machines to pre-laid junctions isn't too bad.

Naturally since I can't get through a post without using the phrase "Wall Bus" I must also inform you all I have all my Wall Bus segments blueprinted. Never again will I forget to select the double-sided power connector for the bottom segment! To align corner pieces atop each other I have to drop a temporary 1x1 foundation onto the lower piece, but it's still easier than building a whole corner by hand. "Nudge" will fix that.
