Giant Conveyor Belt = Road Builder
Everytime I look at the conveyor belts, I think: I wish I could just as easily build a wide road like this. Click, click, shhhhwoop done.

Can't we get something like that?

I just want to build paved roads as easily as we build conveyor belts and rails. Feels like that system would be perfect for it. The belts can curve and incline so smoothly. Just imagine a foundation-wide "belt" that doesn't move... and that's a road.

Don't get me wrong, the whole glitch-angle-clip building people do with various blocks is fascinating, but not everyone's got all that time and energy, and plus those do have a few issues (collision, z-fighting, etc).

I think easier to build roads would also do wonders for the Vehicles gameplay too. Make it more palatable to use more trucks.

Yay? Nay? Cheers!

I have a sulfur node which I want to use without belts all over the place. The incline is to hard for the truck to get up sometimes and the other way would be a way longer.

I'm really down for something like that even if it'd only mean the swoop mode adds ramps if I go upwards.
At some point I just moved my logistics under the map, because I love to align my conveyors in grader and 90° angles or under the map where you can't see them on top of the map.

or that here under my starter area in the grasslands.

If you're willing to use mods, there's actually a mod for this.
https://ficsit.app/mod/RoadSplineTool

16m, 32m, and 64m roads that place like conveyors and are optionally paintable- Even has a road option that places vanilla foundations in the form of the road.

The thing which bothers me most is that I have to use mods by now if I don't want to end up with something ugly. I think they should include something like the mod to the game cause mostly it's a pain to build something which doesn't look completely out of place.
I think that is what OP is mostly concerned about.

Hah! Thanks for the heads up. Will definitely check it out!
Trucks drive fine on the terrain. I only make them drive on foundations for loading/ unloading and haven't met an incline yet that they can't handle.

Oh that's nice. I like that. The only thing more I would want from that would be the ability to do truck scheduling like trains. Basically setup a road network, and then you can make truck routes along the roads by just picking stations like you do trains.

Oh I'd like that but why not take it even further as in we have the road signs. Why not use them for the truck AI.
i very much wish they'd add this.

right now vehicles are kind of annoying if they need to go off road or up a mountain because building highways with foundations is just clunky and ugly.

That's why I build trains and before and even now still conveyor belts vehicles I have not really used for material transport.

Hey mr cranky take a look at this

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2883367001

It is 18 wide and links grassy fields with my top base , moving materials like the is quicker than drones but be warned it was hard work , i have shown this shot before and some say i must have used mods but i can asure you i did not.

This is how i did it , i placed a row of foundations down and put walls with conveyor holes in them , next i added the belts , when i got near the top i realised i would miss where i wanted them so i went to the waterfalls and worked my way down until they joined up with some vertical conveyors , when complete i removed the walls and foundations

Hey mr cranky take a look at this...

That's a beautiful bus my friend, but I think you misunderstood what we were talking about.

I'm talking about building roads. Pavement. Basically, Foundations. What I said about belts is about how they materialize when you build them: as a single long stretch of solid material wich can bend and curve smoothly. A single piece, you know.

I would have built this more in height than in width
and now with the trains I would do it with one or more trains
which I have also done I have dismantled some mega bands.
And the mostly long belts are under the map with me because I conveyor belts on the map partly just when they are so long just look like ♥♥♥♥.

from where i am stood in the first screen shot you cant see how high above the grassy fields it is , they are well clear of the manufactures which are as you know quite tall

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2883388177

in my first playthrough i made 4m foundation on water then removed a row of them , on the bottom edge i put a 1m foundation and a 1m foundation level with top edges , this meant i had a 2m " tunnel " to hide some belts in but for some reason on my 2nd playtrhrough i could not make it happen ???

Spaghetti ribbons were even tidier for me at the beginning than in your picture and I hated them.
And at some point I slid the crap underground until I didn't want that anymore either and then built it properly underground.
I also paved the abyss in the grassland by the big waterfalls and hid my logistics three stories down and small factories are running.
