What I've not worked out is which recipes are needed to maximize the electrical power produced from a given quantity of crude oil. It's fairly clear that turbofuel is part of it.
Assuming the best alt recipes, compared to regular fuel you can power 33% more fuel generators for the same oil, though with the addition of sulfur.
E.g. using the heavy oil residue, diluted fuel and turbo blend fuel recipes:
* 180 oil -> 480 fuel -> 40 fuel generators
* 180 oil + 120 sulfur -> 240 turbofuel -> 53.33 fuel generators
the logical problem is that by the time you have blenders you can also move into nuclear power...
personally, I don't bother with anything more complicated than diluted fuel before nuclear/turbo blend is unlocked.
I've done that just now, although I'm missing the heavy oil residue alt recipe I mainly extract plastic and rubber from the spot, but the leftover HOR gets to power over a 100 generators, I just don't know where to put them yet. If I went for HOR instead of the oil products I could power 302.22222 generators, with crude oil overclocked I'd get 755.5555 out of that spot. Where would you even put that many Fuel Generators at???
In my first world I built a huge platform over the void to the west of Blue Crater for my turbofuel plant, 266 generators (the most you can power with the turbofuel from 600 sulfur)
Though in practice it's more like 256 gens, as rounding errors mean it doesn't quite produce as much turbofuel as the maths says it should.
In my new world it's on the water north of Spire Coast
I've put them in a tower over the water on site where I extract the oil. Lowest level I have the refineries and blenders that make HOR, fuel and resin byproducts. Level 2 I have the blenders for turbo fuel, and then I have 6 floors with the generators in a 11*12 pattern, except for the top floor which has fewer generators totalling 756 of them.
Ugly AF.
I should be producing 113 000MW, but missing around 30 000. Guess some pipes are acting up but I'm fine with that for now xD the game lags like crazy in that area now so any errors I spot might as well just be lag or rendering errors.
Yeah that ugly boxtower look Is what I'm trying to avoid. I made the oil production look like an oil rig to be fully pimped out still and intend to make something like a damn at the waterfall, then put all the generators behind that and below, so you can't see it unless you go look at it.
