That's a big map
I understand that the four starting areas are all on the same map, but can I move from one to another? If so, which direction would I take?

Say I'm in the Grass Fields and I want to go to the Northern Forest, which direction would I go? Can I get there on foot or is flying required?

Thanks

their are several ways to access all areas , you can walk , get a jet pack , a hypertube , a buggy and a truck but all of these will be unlocked at different stages of your progress in the game ..... Note .... regardless of where your start location is their will always be something that is a long way off from where you are and the challenge to figure out the easiest way to get what your after.

Some die hards may not agree with how you go about this so just go with what you feel comfortable with and dont be afraid to ask questions here because once up on a time we were all new to this

You may even find new places for setting up outside the usual starting areas.

Eventually you will need to start exploring out anyway to access more and more sources of even basic materials like iron copper and limestone to fuel your expanding production lines. once long distance comes into play Trucks and later trains become your best friend.

I love it that each area has it's own difficulties, I tried to center my factory in the middle of the map. But that causes other difficulties, mostly getting resources that are then miles away.

My thanks to all of those that replied, but I can't help noticing that no one answered the actual question that I asked.

Sure someone has. The first answer gives you very clear directions to all biomes.

And you can reach all locations by feet. Sometimes you have to take great detours to get there only per feet.

The post by MJS WARLORD did answer your question. You can literally walk to any location on the map. Not a good idea though until you have some more powerful weapons to defend yourself. The Rebar Gun can be acquired early and is a good starting weapon. The Northern Forest is north of the Grass Fields, hence the name, so the Satisfactory Calculator website should be one of the first places you visit to acquaint yourself with the entire mapped world.

Northern Forest is North of the Grassy Fields, just over the river, you can get there on foot if you go around the obstacles or build over them, still a lot of hazards in your way (monsters, gas, heights)

Here you go, stick to the east side of the map while travelling North.

Rocky desert is NW Dunes are NE

Rocky was my first play thru and dunes were my second. Both were incredibly easy IMO, never done grassy fields and starting one in the forest

one thing I noticed is the forest is right between the dunes and the rocky, (although now an updated biome) so I thought it was weird that i spawned so close to them, albeit very high in elevation) nothing foundation ramps cant fix though.

Still not that clear of instructions, even after than. I'd recommend you take a roundabout route, going clock-wise along the shore. You will discover a nice oil-rich spot on islands off the center-west coast, shortly before going under a giant arch. That is the border to the large "Rocky Desert". Once you reach that, head east, more or less in the center of the desert. If you hug the south cliff and avoid going up any ramps (that leads up to a coal-rich biome), you reach a large waterfall. Bounce off that north a bit before it curves back to the east to a lake. Skirt the lake, and you cross a grassy arch over the lake's north tip. This is the west-most edge of the "Northern Forest" biome.

I'd recommend you check out the north-west corner of the biome. Scan for iron/copper/stone/quartz. There are 2+ RICH nodes of EACH of those within rock throwing distance of eachother. You may need to build foundations over the massive ravine north of them, or build in the gently sloping lands south of it.
