Switching items in hand slots???

So, I've come back to this game after a number of years...
Is there STILL NO WAY to just switch items in your hand slots with hot keys?

How is this possible that this hasn't been implemented?

Because it's not something that's really needed? Having immediate direct access to a specific hand slot is not something that's frequently needed. This isn't something like a first person shooter where having immediate access to a specific weapon is a priority. If you need to switch to a specific tool, you've usually got oodles of time to pick it.

+ the changed the build gun to include the paint gun hence one less thing to switch to often. and once you have the rifle its not like you really need to heal yourself that often anymore

Scroll doesn't do anything in my game. Not sure if I've a mod that has disabled that or not.

If you press Tab, how many hand slots do you have? And what's in there?
If you have multiple hand slots and multiple items it should be possible to switch by scroll, unless you changed the hot keys. Try it without mods.

You start with one hand slot and at that moment you have to do the tedious open menu way of switching untill you can expand the toolbelt.

There are several unlocks in the hub and the mam that provide hand slots

Switching with hot keys would make additional hand slots obsolete. Seems like a design choice, not something that's yet to be implemented. And I think there's enough slots to accomodate what you need. A smacky weapon, a shooty weapon, some bombs, inhalers, and then one more geared toward whatever you're currently trying to accomplish (scanning, sawing, soon to be obsolete beaconing, or berries).

What else do you need on demand to improve your play?

I have 4 hand slots right now. Xeno basher, chainsaw and railgun in them.

But like I said... probably a mod has disabled the wheel scrolling. I don't want to turn my mods off at this point as it would hose my game up.

Check your key bindings and check if they work as intended.
If not, I'm afraid you need to turn off a mod (later).

So yeah mouse scroll does it for me. And slightly tangential to the topic, I just accidentally discovered some hotkey that swaps body equipment? I entered my inventory, fat fingered something, and suddenly was wearing my [other thing]. 🤷‍♂️

So, this is entirely a self inflicted problem. There's a method in game of switching which slot is equipped, but something you have added is interfering with it. This isn't the developer's problem.

Also if you really came back after a few years, then now's the perfect time to start a new save without these pesky mods that appear to have broken the game because a lot has changed since then.
