There is not official support. You can, however, rebind your controller to kbm controls through Steam.

I have done this, and I play the game mostly on a controller, but I do not recommend doing so unless you have a physical limitation inhibiting kbm use, it's pretty bad for some things, and most of the rest is just wonky.

That said, you can still have fun with it, particularly if you just want to use controller for movement/building and are happy using a mouse for inventory management, and a keyboard for driving vehicles. Additionally, with a controller, you are effectively limited to 4 hotkeys. I have a setup that works OK for me for most things, but it's something that I've tweaked over 50 hours of gameplay.

One other thing not previously mentioned: The game used to have full controller support. The devs have stated that updating the controller support for each patch is onerous, but that once 1.0 is released they will probably begin supporting controllers again.

In the meantime, there are several Steam controller configs you can try; some of them even work.

I use a ps5 controller and mapped almost everything. It's missing some chat and search functions i never use. Should (?) transfer to ps4 controller. You can even bring up an onscreen keyboard, but it locks character controls up until you hit the button again. I can share if you want, but it'll be rough. The game still shows keys to press, not controller buttons, so you'd have to reference the config often. And there's a LOT of button combos to map everything.
