saw a megabase on youtube and feel disheartened
I was having so much fun in this game, and then I made the horrible mistake of watching a youtube video of a mega-base and I felt so utterly inferior, I literally lost my drive to play.
My base is complete garbage compared to all these youtubers and even my son was like "whats the point of playing now" lol. Maybe I'm lame, but its the truth. I haven't launched this game since.

I will NEVER be as good as those "mega base builders" because I just couldn't care to do mega bases. What I wanna build is something that works and something that allows me to have fun! If I can manage that, even whilst causing chaos (powerfuses blowing, belts backing up with items, space elevator sitting there being useless lol), then I have accomplished all I wanna accomplish with this game.

It's literally not even about skill but how much OCD you have and when it'll finally allow you to relax. I keep going back to "improve" my original base, conveyor lines, rework the power supply, redesign the walls, implement new tech milestones, etc, etc. My base may not be the greatest but it's mine.
does it ever get boring rebuilding the same "schematic" over and over again? Does the community want blueprint capability you think?
Yeah, but you and your son are playing the game your way in your own world. The point of the game isn't to beat it and be the best, its to build something you think is cool and fun. I started a world with my friend, we don't read ahead or look things up with the exception of understanding a certain mechanic, and we're just doing things however we end up doing them. We can just walk around the map and see everything we build in chronological order and look at how we improved with every setup we made. Try to shake the mindset of being the best since this game is far from competitive.

Thats kind of like finding a LEGO kit at a store and thinking "Whats the point of buying it if I can just look at the picture on the box and see what it looks like finished?". Doing it yourself and being pleased with your work is where the fun comes from.
What terrible advice you got in these comments. You should know that most of these people including youtubers are gamers: anti-social and/or have no life, and if you actually knew them in real life you'd probably feel much better about yourself. It's best not to prejudge people by putting them on pedestals; most of them would likely be jealous you have a kid to play the game with.

Fellow pioneers, please keep this discussion constructive and polite. Thank you!

It does. For sure. Blueprints for specific lines would be awesome. That way I could copy and paste my computer line into a supercomputer line. Or could move a computer line to be closer to a plastic conveyor belt entry. It's probably the most needed feature in this game.
I recall seeing video of the construction of something called a "central bus". I had never heard of such a thing. Apparently, the idea is for every product to have its own dedicated, endlessly looping conveyor. Every machine would then branch off of it. It was a very impressive-looking construct that obviously took a great deal of work to build.

Once I finally understood what the central bus was and what it was supposed to do, it was hideous. It looked like the apotheosis of the input manifold. I could imagine no reason why you would ever need such costly flexibility when production lines have a constant flow. It would be nearly impossible to optimize. The amount of parts headroom it would have to fill before production got up to speed could probably fulfill whole project phases by itself.

Don't judge a factory by its novelty. Learn how (and if) it works before praising it. The best ideas you'll get from other people are usually the simplest.
Fill the elevator. Pull the handle. Drink the Golden Coffee. You'll feel better.
You do you. I've watched these content creators with how they're doing their factories and then I'll take their ideas and make them better for mine. I've started my main base over at least 5x because there was something I just didn't like about it.

Now I've got a working factory that I'm happy with for the moment and can add some assemblers to it. Not the greatest thing for scaling but hell it works.

Trying to get the steel age going. Right now it's a big far from the main base but at least I can use the tractor to do a steel run. :D

This isn't a competition unless you let it be one.

Go your own style with glory. I am at the stage where I am beginning to build my abomination of a mega factory. Is goito look pretty? Ha no. Is it going to be efficient? Not even close. Will it have trains? Yes, lots. But importantly it will be all mine
anyone has started at some time.. dont try to build a mega factory at the start. Build like you will. This youtube "tours" are worlds with more than 1000h ingame playtime.
for megafactorys is planning the most important factor. And for most people the best part in Satisfactory.

Nah, building it from the start helps avoid major rebuilds, though I do have to rebuild my smelter sets up and replace them with train cargo stations. Because I didn't go modular like I should have meaning it's going to take a lot of work to shift to pure recipes for iron. copper and caterium.

So don't do a 'Mess and build modular once you've got enough concrete and iron plates to build like crazy.

Usually, after a certain milestone, i delete my whole stuff and replace them to make it much more efficient and clean.

When playing through the milestones for the first time, I wouldn't recommend anyone planning an "all-in-one" factory right away. Smaller modular factories are simply better at the beginning and make it easier to keep track of things, and you can also try out the transport options.

I got used to roughly automating everything up to milestone 6 and then I build up one large factory after the other. In my opinion, by building a large mega factory, a large part of the game becomes unimportant (logistics).. apart from the worsening of the framerate.
