How do you plan out your factory to maximize each machine?
When I first started playing I would build and build machines for each miner. Now I've been looking on the wiki and seeing that there is a limit to what each can do.

I'm having to start a new game over as the game was crashing and had to reinstall everything. It looks like I can have a maximum of 8 smelters to one Mk3 miner on a normal node. Should I plan space for this and build each later or build now and put everything on standby? Please assume everything is at 100% and no overclocking is being done.

I'd just underclock to the level of production I needed at the time, and leave room to scale up later. You don't have to build the expansion right there, either. You can just turn the speed back up and ship the increased ore off to place useful when the time comes.

build more machines than you think you might need and leave space for supplying parts to the next set of machines.

Put as many machines as you can near the nodes so only the end product goes doeen the main belts to your factories , i find that more efficient

Building Modular helps a lot. Then you can just expand upwards.

Leave room to expand to process to 780 and make modular factories. Sometimes I use smart splitters to redirect ingots to a different product if a line is backed up

making ingots and other end products near the nodes makes the belts work better and less chance of a full belt bottle neck

I use a modular minimum amount to make one series of all processes at 100% clock speed, sometimes it means making a sort of 'byproduct' to get this done. The big advantage is you can underclock or overclock the entire floor to your likings and copy it into the sky.

Preproces at the node if this make the items more compact.

yes i agree , at the end of the day it boils down to what works for you but some methods are better than others

Right now I've been building 8 smelters per miner and using the smart splitter to send the overflow to the next two in line once the two in front of them have filled up and so on. Seems to be working well.

Second floor has the constructors, and third floor has assemblers. I think the bottleneck I'm seeing is from the smelters to the constructors. Do I use one long conveyor merger line or do I split them up?

As far as the assemblers, they get used once my storage gets filled up and the overflow is set to them.

Is the 780 the max a Mk3 miner can handle?

I've got my main base at the iron nodes in the rocky desert start. When I find other nodes I've been using the truck to go and fetch them to bring them back.

cant remember off hand but the miners are not your main problem a pure node of say overclocked coal can give you 1200 units per min that even a mk5 belt cant handle , some other nodes are the same , thats why i make end products near nodes

I work backwards. I look at what materials I need to build the final product. Typically, I use the items needed to advance to the next tier of the space elevator. Since I am at the last tier (until CS releases an update), I plan on making the four items at one per minute or so. Using calculators out on the web internets, I will know how much of everything I need to make. I do not see the sense of building ten miners on limestone if I only need one hundred concrete. Of course, if you want to just produce things just for the fun of making them, have at it. Just set up some type of storage system to keep things where you can find them. This is a sandbox game so play it like you stole it.
