And you will never be able to build extreme factories in Satisfactory because of the small map. (30km²) ...that's the same size like Skyrim... and there are mountains and other thing in it.
30km²
Actually, it’s not even a whole planet. It’s just a small bit. But it’s still pretty big, 30km². That means about 5.4x5.4km.
I suppose it is also big enough to make trains pretty cool as well, but it just doesn't "SEEM" that big. You could just as easily stretch out belts to a resource area, as easily as stretching out a train track.
Satisfactory may have advantages over Factorio, with a non-random map, simplified belts, and no inserters. If they care to optimize it. And who knows if building things at large scale is even going to be fun in this game. It needs a UI that makes tiling copies of builds possible, not too tedious, but not overpowered either. I'm glad I don't have to design games and just get to play them.
Even on the Windows 10 (Pocket) version, which is on a different engine, Minecraft is very limited.
I'd love to see a huge world that is always computed in real time but so far Factorio is the only game that has done this.
3D Factorio already exists, and it existed BEFORE Factorio. You can check out the screenshots in this. The factories in this game can be massive. 3D won't limit it too much if it's programmed well.
Fortresscraft Evolved has it's problems with massive lag when you stand into your mega factory that stretches not only on x and y coordinates but on z too...and I have a "big boy" pc...i7 8700k, 1080ti, 32gb ddr4
That's been fixed in the recent free patches. It won't lag anymore if you build rooms. I don't know the technical mumbo jumbo but by compartmentalizing the base into rooms, it knows not to render much of the base that isn't being looked at, but still registers all the ore/items built.
I have 100+ hours in Fortresscraft. I really enjoy how the power system is handled in the game, but everything else is just a bit too tedious.
And performance depends on how well they can optimize the graphics and textures. Just look at Conan Exiles or Ark to see how UE4 can struggle with performance with their maps and the amount of simulation behind the scene for thralls/dinos AI.
A very fun joke in that case! Personally my latest large Factory in FortressCraft Evolved still manages to run at full speed with only a 10-20% load on the main thread with the developer stating it can go up to 500%. Rooms help a lot with rendering as well.
A 3d factory can be done very, very well if done right, it's just a matter of taking the time to do it right.
Minecraft doesn't solve the issue because there is no issue in vanilla Minecraft really. You aren't meant to be automating a whole lot and what little you do automated honestly doesn't have to be running 24/7. Modded minecraft you can use chunkloaders but it's still an issue that you are modding a game that is meant to be doing almost nothing and then telling it to automate a large amount of stuff. Though the latest Forge modloader versions allow some multi-threading to fix some of the problems.
