And you can drop from a high location into deep water to retrieve your crate.
And you can also avoid dying under water. Since you can't dive, I cannot grasp the concept of dying underwater in the first place.
Another piece of advice: never exit your vehicle below any sort of overhanging terrain, whether that's inside a cave or just under an outward-leaning cliff. The problem seems to occur more frequently when there's terrain at the same coordinates, but with a higher elevation.
Also, this is supposed to be fixed (or at least much less frequent) with Update 6 (Snutt mentioned it during the recent video describing the specific changes other than terrain).
find the chest you wanna move, right click. select move near to you
Then download the modified save file and drop it in the save game folder.
Then load that save in the game.
