Recommendation for Spinoff: Trains
I've played through Satisfactory several times through Tier 8 alone and with friends and it definitely captures the addictive-ness of great games of the past like the original SimCity, and the more recent Factorio.

The game not only looks and runs good, the multiplayer works very well.

Lately I've been having a lot of fun with the Trains, and here's my pitch for a spinoff game:

Using the same game engine and mp features, it would be cool to have an earth like map similar to what's in Red Dead Redemption - forest, plains, mountains, desert.

Next, instead of the player building a factory he would build towns full of consumers and producers of products, passengers, and other freight, and a railway.

Instead of starting with a drop pod, he could start with an old locomotive, some track, and enough resources to get a couple of small buildings (producers and consumers) setup. There could even be some existing towns to deliver products too.

Instead of wildlife you could have people and cars doing there things bringing your world to life, like how many RTS buildings come with worker bees to make the building look animated.

So that's my pitch - I don';t have the room to setup real model trains right now, so it would be cool if the game engine could be used for a spinoff like this :-)

Peace out,

Grey

Pretty safe bet a lot of people will be wanting to bring up mention of games like Railroad Tycoon if you want to play with this sort of thing.

I'll admit it's an old concept, but it's still a great one. This sounds like a good idea - I'd go along with it.

Even if it does sound like a better, sci-fi version of Railroads Online.

@Amanoob105 Railroad Tycoon games are 20 years old, don't support co-op, and typically do not support first person gameplay.

Before making this post I had search quite a bit for modern train games that supported first person views and online co-op, and all I found was one released game and two projects in Early Access:

@Kerry Freeman This game looks great but after watching several videos it appears to be a mega grind. Unlike Satisfactory which always gives you something productive to do, many reviewers state it takes "hours" to lay the first stretch of rail.

Compare this to Satisfactory which imo makes creating rail lines easy and fun.

These two games look like they have lots of promise, but again seem to lack the fun and addictiveness of Satisfactory - only time will tell.

Agreed, Greylock. I used to be a fan of Trainz, it was a lot of fun but the content creators' community was hell.

Now if you want a first-person railroad sim that allows you to get out of the cab and walk around, change manual switches, work fuel pumps, run manual turntables, and even do maintenance on your train including full cold+dark startups, I recommend this game:

It's all diesels and electrics, but TSW is the most comprehensive train sim game I've seen.

TSW2020 is the old version (development stopped), the game has been updated and re-released as TSW2.

It is usually cheaper to purchase DLC for TSW2020 and get the same DLC for TSW2 though.

Hmm, OK. Still though, TSW is the best railroader sim I've seen, an actual virtual experience of being a railroader. Not just running the locomotive or laying track, but full-on railroading just like the real deal.

Looks like a great game, and if it had co-op it would fit my need, but sadly it's only sp.

That said, I'm still going to wishlist it ;-)

Yeah. Now Trainz is also pretty good, it's got a much better editor but the content creators' community was toxic, elitist and not very fun for a rookie who just wants to know how to change something simple.

Trainz has multiplayer but it's a lot less of a railroader sim and more of just a train sim. Mouse-driven controls, like every simulator, great editor, terribly toxic and god-awful community, especially for a rookie creator, and no ground action.

For Trainz, you're better off sticking to SP and giving orders to the trains, not running them yourself.

There's 1 game that offers that, but it's still in early development, albeit with just 1 developer.

It's called Mashinky, look it up. It offers building view, similar to ye olde tycoon games, but also 1st person view and ability to go on and about.

Edit: It has MP as well.
