Cannot get pipes to fill
Hi. I have been trying very hard to get my pipes to fill to support quite a few coal generators. The first few that get hooked up are fine but then the pipes stopping filling and I can't get water into them. I've used head lift pumps in numerous places, I added a 2nd water extractor, I added a fluid buffer. I re-attached all of the pipes. Nothing works. WHat gives.

Attached is a screen shot of the piping that stops filling. The further it goes the worse it gets. Behind me is another coal generator and a fluid buffer. These pipes are totally full.

Did you check if all pipes are connected fully? Sometimes they just look like they are connected but are not (escpecially at intersections)

are you use'in mk 1 pipes or mk 2 and how many generators do u have or try'in to run.....?

Yeah, follow each segment along the line. If one is full and the next is not then you should try to replace it (or both). Use pumps every 12-16m (3 to 4 walls) vertical.

Do the math properly. Use the 3:8 formula if you're unsure. Be patient. It can take while for the network to fill up 100%.

Also, never hook any generators to the power network until all buffers are full, or else you'll give yourself some headache, loss of "pressure" and the power will be unstable for a while..

Hi. Yes all pipes are connected. I re-did them all just to make sure that wasn't an issue.

I am using MK1 pipes. I have 7 generators after the fluid buffer (which is always full). The 1st two of the 7 fill fine, the other 5 do not. Before the fluid buffer is 2 more generators and then the 2 water extractors. These are always full as well.

Yes I do see this. A pipe will be mostly full and then the next empty or almost empty. Its not a head lift issue either. It's a straight line and placing pumps along the line didn't help anything. It seems to do this after a junction but like I say, I re-did all of these.

I don't have these generators hooked up because they are turning on and off (mostly off).

Another observation is if I disconnect the 2 generators right after the buffer then the pipes in the empty area fill pretty well. It's like I have too many pipes or something but the game doesn't give that impression by what it does.

I don't know this 3:8 formula. What is the 3, what is the 8?

3 extractors, 8 coal power plants.

The 3 to 8 ratio is three Water Extractors for every eight Coal Generators with the water coming in on three inputs (both sides and up the middle) to balance out the flow with out over loading the pipes and can be done with a single network.

Did you replace the "blocked" intersection, too?
I remember dealing with a similiar issue and it turned out there were two of those cross pieces exactly on the same spot.

Edit: Hmm your last comment wasn't there when i wrote this. Seems like you don't have enough pumps, like others commented

Using the 3 (extractors) : 8 (generators) as a base:

8 coal generators needs 45m3 * 8 = 360m3.

Mark 1 pipes can only carry 300m3, thus you need 2+ pipes. Distribute the 2+ pipes pretty evenly. like here:

(One extractor puts out 120m3 water so you can use two extractors on one pipeline. Personally, the fewer pipeline the better.)

So it turned out I had 3 extractors after all. My bad. However I only have one pipe from them. So 3 * 120 = 360, but I only have 300 space on one pipe. So maybe that is part of my problem.

Thanks for the stats. I am going start doing some math here. I bet I will figure oiut out now. Thanks.

mk2 pipes are better as the hold 600m3 which equals 5 water extractors..mk1 pipes are ok for small builds/small demands...so looks like u need to unlock mk2 pipes....
