Adding some sort of "Gardening" to harvest biomass quickly.
So, I've played the game quite a while now and I love the game mechanics, the level of industrial management. But the pain the @ss in my opinion when playing is when collecting wood and trees for biomass, especially when the coal power plant isn't unlocked yet. So I have in mind some sort of "garden" that you can plant trees or bushes that you can harvest and make biomass out of it. Do you think it is a concept that the developers should add?

It has been asked before and the developers have said no
Coal power and the trucks to fuel it are tier three unlocks. A chainsaw is more than sufficient to keep phase one production powered as you reach it.

If late-game farming (Tier 10), sure.

Else, no.

Out of curiosity, where do you normally start? I think biomass issues stem largely from starting location. I have no issues lingering in tiers 1 and 2 in the Northern Forest or even the western Dune Desert, but in Grass Fields or Rocky Desert I feel I need to rush coal.

you can use a constructor/container setup to make a half automated biomass supply chain and center the burners around the storage. Also make some delvery belts from far away with containers at the start so you can dump your leaves in the container and go on gathering

Definitely not the case. There is more than enough biomass in every single starting area of the map. Even in the dunes there's a big oasis that has more than enough biomass to last you until coal. OP just doesn't understand game mechanics, like every single one of these posts.

I agree that all the starting areas are pretty easy with plenty of Biomass.
I think the Dunes area is the easiest since the coal and water are so close.
The area you need to travel through (to get to the coal) has more than enough Biomass to get you started.

It would probably take more resources and time to set up a garden than to just get to coal. I think anything that encourages or permits players to remain in project 1 for any longer is doing them a disservice.

The thing that kinda annoys me is they have several biomass related alternate recipes, but no way to automate production of biomass production, so why are they there? They're utterly pointless. If they don't want to have automated biomass, just remove these pointless recipes and replace them with halfway useful recipes. Hell, even something that converts coal to biomass would be something to make them useful, just something!

Because it violates the established "this for that" gameplay.

With Biomass, you trade this time for that biomass energy/Coal.

If a farm was created, what would become the "this" in that equation that isn't time?

I would assume the “this” would be water, but since water isn’t available until tier 3 it kind of defeats the purpose. However, renewable biomass would open up the possibility of using alternative recipes to convert biomass into coal, but at that point it wouldn’t even be that great for energy generation between needing a water extractor, biomass grower, and constructor just to get biomass into a usable state for automation, not to mention needing a specific alternate recipe.

the game as is today comes with a message: bio is primitive, progress is clean coal, oil and wasteless nuclear.
Zero waste zero spill zero spirit.
Very much contra zeitgeist, very much pro petrochemical corpos.
Hollow fun.
