but this game he does love to play on a weekend, and like the good old days in our two youthful gaming days we set of playing online satisfactory.
and we both gave up the idea of this being a multiplayer game years ago. it suddenly becomes a bug fest the moment you try playing this online. heck at one point as the non host i ended sat on a truck on autopilot unable to get of it, going around in circles
stuff that lmao
And you can move to another host fairly easily - You just set it up, and just move the save file over
The point of the experimental branch is for wider community testing and feedback on issues and bugs (far more play hours than any QA team could manage). So patches are frequent after major updates, as issues are reported and fixed.
If you are simply after a stable play experience, then you would be better served by waiting for dedicated servers to land in the early access branch (and maybe a week after that). Then patch frequency will be far lower.
I think dedicated servers will be part of the general release of update 5 to Early Access, which is scheduled for this Tuesday. So I would guess that a week on Tuesday would be the best time to start.
Note that dedicated servers are still very new so even in early access I wouldn't expect them to be super stable or bug free
Switching to where, if you don't mind me asking? As in renting a server, or another private host?
I'm renting a server, and it's been "Playable*". Actually in fact, the first host I rented from, I couldn't even connect to - Set up an account with another provider, and it just worked - Cancelled that first lot
But yeah - Even when renting a private server, you'll still need to restart it now and then to get it up to date - I've set up a scheduled restart like I mentioned before to avoid issues
*Sometimes items don't appear to move along belts, but if you pay attention to the whole belt, you'll see stuff moving. BUT, sometimes splitters and mergers bug out, and you will need to rebuild a section (Sometimes long belts bug out too)
- Update 5 is only aviable on the Experimental Branch.
- The experimental Branch is ... uhmmm ... EXPERIMENTAL .. and used to iron bugs out of the update, before it hits the EA-Branch.
- For ironing out Bugs it is neccesary to patch regulary.
Once it hits the "Early Access" branch it will be much more 'stable' in regards to the updates.. once it gets the first few patches as well.
Honestly any game that updates semi-regularily takes a LOT more to manage to maintain uptime.
Games like ARK, which is notorious for this issue, especially on modded servers, has grown to have tools that can auto update and restart the servers in the event of updates.
Give it time to grow and update, these pains will pass.. hopefully :D
