Difficulty mods?
looking for a mod that simply makes project assembly harder. i saw another mod that made all milestones 10x more costly but it changes some core game systems to achieve this (namely replacing the vanilla milestone system with a custom one). i just want something that makes PA material costs higher (10x or 100x or something). basically i want a real reason to use the conveyor ports on the space elevator as opposed to just carrying the parts there. anyone know of a mod to do this for current versions of the game?

It sounds like you're talking about the 100 milestones mod.

That's the only one I know of that does anything like that.

You can always just hook up to the space elevator anyway.

i know, but whats the point if i can carry the items myself. really i just want something to stretch out project assembly itself. unless the elevator has hard coded stacking rules it seems like it should be a relatively simple mod to make... if there were a simple enough (i.e non developer) instructions on making such edits to the game i could have a crack at it myself i suppose but i was really hoping it had been done already since the biggest complaint ive seen is the trivial difficulty of the game

Wait, so you're wanting a mod off of all the complaints you've seen about the game? Have you played the game? Also, this game isn't completed yet. They still have a lot of things they mean to implement.

the space elevator has 3 inputs. If you connect smart splitters and an overflow container/sink you can make a selfload system and upgrade the production line with every upgrade

I have never encountered a situation where I said to myself "it's only 500 Smart Wiring modules, I'll hand-craft them tirelessly and then carry them over".

The first Smart Plating delivery of 50 pieces, ok fine build local, walk it over, no biggie. Beyond that, no.

Build the Space Elevator somewhere NOT near your base. That will at least give you the impetus to transport items. In the later game, you can surround it with the final project's required factories, so they output directly into the elevator.

i do a fair bit of AFK play time so i get a large stockpile quite fast relative to actual play time. also, i was not just wanting it to be harder but to take longer to progress so that im in the world for longer and basically end up building more, both to house logistics and for the sake of building something to fill in time. remember, everyone plays differently. there is no "right" or "wrong" way to play the game so long as you are having fun :)

If you want a reason to play longer an build more, force yourself to underclock everything.

The side benefit is massive power savings. A 3x split will cut your power usage in half, and a 10x split reduces it to 25% of typical.
(I don't recommend a 10% underclock for everything. I did it for a biomass-only challenge I gave myself, and after 80 hours decided it just wasn't worth it. A 33% underclock for most things and 33.33% - 16.66% for the heavy-hitters felt like a good balance, though it more-or-less killed the biomass only part when I got into Phase 4.)
When you have to build 3 times as much of everything by default, it will take about that much longer also.

well aside from needing to be unlocked in the first place i just dont play well that way. its fine. i was querying the existence of difficulty increase mods specifically, not "challenges". its not a bad idea, just not my play style :)

Technically, those kinds of "difficulties" are still challenges -- just ones not self-imposed. ;)
