I still think we are a robot since we have no need for sleep or rest and only need to eat when damaged. and that is just supplying raw material for I think nanites to repair you. not sure if it is still in but I also remember the pioneer making mechanical servomotor like noises at times.

Sleep and rest is just taken out for conveniences sake from the otherwise relaxed game style. There still is a bed and a toilet in the HUB, + a computer with front access and monitor, which a robot have no need for at all.

There is a strong connection between light and matter so that may be it actually... especially since the clones are physically sent down to a planet and not just "teleported" down.

It's not that strong of a connection as light is usually considered to be photons and matter to be nuclei.

Well not one that a small little hand held device could take advantage of.

As for character I've always thought it was a disposable pioneer. The future is bleak and overcrowded, full of the impoverished masses. Ficsit simply recruits any number of willing future employees with the promise of free land and resources for the low cost of the future employee taking on every physical risk and sending certain resources back. So the current character we are playing isn't a clone or robot. They are just one of the impoverished masses.

female, but to correct lava lamp's comment, I do believe there are men in the company, but the pioneers themselves are all female.

Part of me is a bit concerned, as I have seen a lot cases where a story was made only to send a message. One example being the new starwars trilogy. But we will have to see what the devs do. My only hope is that politics don't enter the scene.
