As for character I've always thought it was a disposable pioneer. The future is bleak and overcrowded, full of the impoverished masses. Ficsit simply recruits any number of willing future employees with the promise of free land and resources for the low cost of the future employee taking on every physical risk and sending certain resources back. So the current character we are playing isn't a clone or robot. They are just one of the impoverished masses.
Part of me is a bit concerned, as I have seen a lot cases where a story was made only to send a message. One example being the new starwars trilogy. But we will have to see what the devs do. My only hope is that politics don't enter the scene.
