Trucks i use mostly for the more low bulk goods, and trains ofc for the bigger loads.
The factories i divided into its main resources, so everything iron related in produced at my iron plan, steel related products at the steel mill and so on.
And with transports i deliver the goods that aren't produced at that certain factory
Also i have a few "private" factories that only produce my building materials and do not go into my production chain.
Each plant also has its own awesome sink.
I still have plans for a mass storage, but for now this setup seems to be working just fine for me
Further production
Storage
Sink
I often start with 1 container per production line and sinks in the factory. Once you get everything automated you can make a supply storage for your building parts. Once you have the building parts for most of the buildings at one central place you can expand this to more advanced items
You can put a smart splitter in the line to further production.
This smart splitter then sends overflow to the storage.
At the storage make a second smart splitter to feed a sink so production remains 100%
Personally I like to send into next productionline with smart splitter and then the second smart splitter and sink also come in the factory so I only need a belt to the storage
These 2 gave me some inspiration about this and made me design my own solution:

With the design of the first video you can make u-turn designs for the beltwork
I have viewed these several times, def the way to go for me. I guess the only thing stopping me is trying to decide what storing ethos to use.
Currently, I am about to start the oil refinery, so not too far along yet. I have a motor factory, a steel factory and an iron one. My coal is distributed about for the power and the foundry locations.
I was thinking of having a central storage area with every mat needed for the sky lift goods. The rest I am storing locally next to the various nodes.
I do all 3 in the same factory for every factory. After every step, a series of smart splitters feeds a storage room, the rest of the production, and an overflow sink.
If I ever feel like consolidating to a central storage, it'd just be a matter of transporting out of the individual factory storage rooms into that central storage. (But, I don't mind traveling an extra few minutes here and there, so I probably never will.)
