I'm just at the same point of you (1st play time).
Thanks to fuel genrator, I have plenty of electricity, so I don't use nuclear for now (especially because I want to be sure to have what I need to recycle the nuclear waste, I don't want billions of containers full of them).
My base is made of several platform above of each others.
I built a new one for the Blenders, then a second one above where I put several Fluid Buffer. Then I brought Nitrogen there (by train and with a pipeline).
So, anytime I need Nitrogen, I just add a new machine and take Nitrogen upstairs, and thanks to gravity, it just flows in the machine without problem :)
I hope I could help you a bit.
Not sure if this is a good plan, though.
And btw. I know, i need to bring in the bauxite (and ultimately all other ressources) in large quantities to my platform. So i guess thats what i am gonna do. I just hope my energy is enough to get things started.
T8 also, Not my first game so I knew at t8 I was going to tear everything out and reset to t3 miners and 720 belts.
Stage one for me was a modular turbo fuel power setup, each floor is 14 fuel generators, using diluted fuel then refined into turbo fuel.
Get into those hard drives and alt recipes.
MY biggest error was getting ahead of myself I ripped up a kind of messy area and took away my alu and basic copper and iron machines and now ofc iv run low on alu.
However I'm sitting on 18,000 MW and have enough oil for 24,000 MW so leaving nuclear alone for now.
And I did exactly as you've suggested; started an enormous structure to start over clean. Used 40,000 concrete just on the shell...

But as for how to configure it, I'm definitely just winging it.
But really, it all depends on your style. I'd say a decent fuel power setup is pretty important, though if you don't mind building bigger you can use underclocking to save an absolute ton of power. It's exponential so 2x machines at 50% speed consume less than 1 machine at 100%.
Also, you don't have to build a singular large factory. With trains/drones, if your computer and motivation have limited resources, you can scatter smaller buildings with a specific purpose in mind around the map and then ship the final product to a warehouse for convenience.
