Having trouble getting past biomass electricity
I got the coal power schematic, which uses water? But the only water source nearby is WAAAY far away and apparently isn't deep enough for a water extractor. Regardless, I don't know where to find coal, so...
I guess I'm just looking for someone to point out whatever way might be best to get me off biomass power. Getting a little tiresome to go out and collect grass, but danged if I can find anything to do with coal so I can actually set up a plant.
I've scoured the surrounding area well enough that it looks like, were I ever to find a water source, its going to be waaaaay far away, so a little worried I may not have chosen the best base area here.

Yeah I'm not even sure what I'm asking here, just...any tips or whatever would be appreciated.

First one alien carapace nets 200 bio mass, so stop picking up leaves.

Second water is all around, just requires some searching.

First time i was ready to set up coal i had the same issue, where is the water ?

I had literally explored all over the place and only found one small spot over in the south west and was ready to build a pipe line that would have run a couple km. Then just explored a little more and found a bunch of much more convenient locations.

I can only assume you started in the grass fields location. Head west and you will find a huge waterfall and one of the games oceans.

i'm in the same starting location about to open up coal, but i'm pretty happy with bio generators... tons of leaves and flowers and stuff around and i don't mind grabbing it as i explore around... actually grabbing bushes and chain sawing trees clears undergrowth out so i can see better. i get a chuckle out of burning flowers to power huge machines that serve my mega corporate masters :)

so i'll move on to coal eventually, but i'm cool exploring and grabbing bushes and picking flowers for now :) i'm in no hurry

I made my first water extractor 800m away. with 90m elevation. I could have done it way simpler but boy was it fun.

You can set up your coal generation however far away you need, if you have a coal node and a sufficent water source near one another. Just bring your power poles where you need the power. Also pay very close attetion to the amount of coal/water needed for each generator. Do the math so you have exactly what you need

first, you have an Ore Scanner so use it :) ... very helpful. secondly, stating the starting area you spawned in would also help, i'm going to assume you are in the Grasslands. lastly, if you are in fact in the Grasslands i know for a fact theres 2 viable water sources you can get at least 4 Extractors running in near the main spawn zone.

If you're in the Grasslands, go north uphill into the forest. At the top of the ridge, you should see a basin down below with a small lake in it. There's four coal nodes down there just beyond it (one is covered by a cracked boulder you need Nobelisks from the sulfur M.A.M. tree to access). Place screams "build coal generators here!"

Coal plants should ALWAYS be done on-site. There are many areas around the map specifically for this purpose (e.g there's coal nodes near a lake). So all you really have to do is build the power plant, and then build a bunch of power poles to connect it to your grid

Make sure you look up how to feed water to a coal plant. It seems like a sticking point for a lot of people, because the limit of a tier 1 pipe doesn't divide evenly by the requirement of a coal plant.

Also, craft the chainsaw and use biomass as fuel to collect a ton of wood and leaves in a few seconds from clearing trees. Build two constructors that convert wood and leaves to biomass, then feed that biomass to a storage unit. Those two constructors will produce 360 biomass per minute, which can feed 3 constructors making solid biofuel for a total of 180 per minute. This is 25% more efficient than using biomass, and a full generator will run 2.5 times longer before needing refueled.

Both the chainsaw and solid biofuel come from the Obstacle Clearing T2 milestone upgrade.

Grins, not quite there yet, but still taking a few notes... thanks posters

i just brute force waste a bit of water. 3 pumps running together then split the pipe, then split those and then split them again before running them to 8 generators

which spawn did you pick and whereabouts is your base?

If you can't find a resource (in this case, Coal) walk 500m or so in any direction away from your base and ping again. Repeat that while circling progressively away from your base little by little until you're in range of said resource.

Alternatively, you can go to the Interactive Map ( https://satisfactory-calculator.com/en/interactive-map ) and just look it up.

Unfortunately, you can't ping for water, though. What you can do in game is to grab a few stacks of Iron Rods and build a ladder up up up until you can just see wherever is the nearest water.

Jesus I completely forgot about my scanner, THANK YOU. Good lord.

Thank God, I was hoping this was the case...thank you.

Gotcha, going to check it out first thing here, thank you!

I looked for these, but...do I need to be your friend? Are they on your profile?

Pardon my forgetting to mention this, I chose the easy one...I forget which (weren't there two?), but whichever one looked the most lush....I think. That's the thing though, I haven't figured out a map function, is there one?
There were two (impure) iron nodes right under a little ridge. Go over that ridge and across an inclining field to find a copper node (impure). There's also two pure iron nodes directly to the NW, just a couple hundred meters away.

Thanks for the advice here guys, just...yeah completely forgot about my scanner, but back into the game here, I'm keeping these suggestions/hints in mind and appreciate the feedback here greatly. Great community, good looking out =]
If you do need to bring coal and water together, it's easier to haul coal to water by truck than to pipe water to coal. Coal can also be used as truck fuel, so that simplifies things.

Coal is also needed to make steel.

OP chose the grasslands start, he'll be fine. There's two pure coal nodes somewhat nearby to the South West and East-SouthEast respectively, that he can allocate towards Steel production.

Don't worry about using any of the 4 nodes at the lake for Steel OP, best idea is to allocate all of them to Power Generation
